Come check out the newest gargantuan to hit the forest for Circle of Orboros. We take a look at this new awesome model today.

What Is It?

This is the new gargantuan for circle of Orboros. It costs 38 points and is FA:2. This is a very different gargantuan compared to the Woldwrath. It has one of the highest defense stats for a huge based model and is also as fast as the Legion Archangel at SPD7. A great addition to the Circle armory.

What Does the Storm Raptor Do?

The Storm Raptor is incredibly fast with SPD7 and Agile at DEF13. However, it does lack in the martial and ranged prowess with the MAT/RAT 5/6. You will need to boost most of those attack rolls to hit reliably and with only fury 4 you might find yourself out of fury quick.

The Storm Raptor is well equipped to kill models with 3 intials in melee a POW18 and 2 POW17s.

It also has a competent ranged attack with RNG12 and POW14 electric damage gun and can spend a fury to shoot a 2nd time.

For such an expensive model it does include a plethora of special rules:

Flight: This is great with the high speed that even a huge based model can land into good charging spots.
Immune to Electricity: The lightning chicken is fluffly immune to lightning.
Disruption on Beak: Hit 1 jack with the beak to ignore it and finish another target off with the claws.
Crit Disruption on Talons: If you are seeing multiple jacks you can possibly shut down the offensive output with some lucky crits.
Plasma Nimbus: If you hit the electric bird it hits you back with a POW10 electric shock. Light Infantry beware!
Lightning Generator: The ranged attack of the storm raptor also had d3 Pow10 leaps bouncing from its original target hit. Similar to Cygnar bounces.
Electro Leap: The melee weapons can also clear light armor models near by.

With all this electricity it is only fitting that the Storm Raptor has a electric boosting animus.

Sky Fire: Cost 2
– Models within 7″ of the Storm Raptor or CMD of your warlock depending who casts it get +2/+2 on attack/damage rolls with electric based weapons.
This is pricey for the Storm Raptor himself to cast, but a warlock might be able to spare the fury. Kruegar is command 9 and has electric guns so it is a win win for him.

Lists With the Storm Raptor:

There is a lot to the Storm Raptor that isn’t obvious. It is one of the fastest unbuffed heavy hitters Circle has ever had. It also has a respectable ranged armament. It does however lack accuracy so warlocks that can help with this will get the most out of the magic electric chicken.

When considering building my first Storm Raptor list I wanted to take advantage of the high defense and speed. This led me to Kaya2. Not only can she speed up the chicken with Dog Pile. She also can increase the defense of the Storm Raptor to a staggering 14 which is unheard of on a huge base model.
Few models will be able to kill the Storm Raptor with the combination of boxes and high defense.

Revenant’s Final Thoughts:

C+ The Storm Raptor is definitely unique for Circle. It has an interesting animus but it is hard to make use of. It is fast and hits hard but this comes at a big cost in the MAT/RAT department. I think it is a niche piece. It is a spectacular looking model and is worth picking up just to look at in a display case!
