GW: Rumor Engine “Packing Heat”

Bols-Rumors-avatar

Games Workshop has another mystery bit from the Rumor Engine – This one’s packing heat!

“Hmmm, wonder who carries this…?”

Let’s break this one down:

  • It’s a firearm and it looks like it’s holstered
  • Looks a bit archaic
  • It’s belt-fed, not unlike other bolter weapons or stubbers
  • It has a “hammer” – as in the part of a gun that you pull back to shoot. Most Bolters/Bolt-pistols don’t have a hammer (that you can see).

So internet, What say you!?

  • Severius_Tolluck

Looks similar to the weird fire arm on the model with the zebra paint job.

    • Aezeal

      Does not

    • Jonathan Loquet

      no it’s not

      • Severius_Tolluck

Did not say it was, but it shows similar design elements leading up to the hammer. Obviously the other one is for AoS as it is on a saddle of something. But I am pointing to me, it shows similar design elements. Which is subjective in the end.

        • LeroyJenkinss

          It shoots dildos

  • rtheom

It’s like a cross between a Rocket Launcher and a Bolt Pistol. Some sort of Bolt Pistol prototype? Perhaps a Sister of Silence or Custodes character?

    • Jared van Kell

      Or an auto-pistol.

    • georgelabour

      Interesting.

Especially considering we get vague references to either of those factions in both Wrath of Magnus, and Fall of Cadia.

Specifically the scene where Trazyn uses his poke’balls to summon reinforcments, and on the very last page of text in Wrath of Magnus.

  • Ravingbantha

Given the ‘belt fed’ look to it, I would guess it belongs to someone in the Chaos faction. Either a character or simply an update on a squad of some sort. Only Chaos and Orks seems to be unable to afford magazines for their weapons.

  • Ebsolom

    Necromunda Bounty Hunter weapon maybe?

    • Carey_Mahoney

      Would be awesome.

    • kobalt60

Don’t you go getting my hopes up

  • Carey_Mahoney

A beaky boltgun? Very much in line with the latest Chaos releases.

But seriously, it’s certainly not Chaos but something Imperium.

    • Henry Blake

The beaky bit is part of the holster.

  • grenstauf

It is an astartes pattern grip on the pistol….but the muzzle end doesn’t match anything i can find/recognize. New weapon type?

  • SilentPony

Maybe a random pistol from a new Imperial Guard troop box? With Caida totes for realz destroyed, no backsies, GW has to release an entirely redone Guard box.

    • Carey_Mahoney

That would be so due! After all, Cadia had to fall because it was punished for fielding abominably ugly plastic models as soldiers…
To be fair, it’s not that overdue – plastic Rough Riders are!

  • SoulFire

    Lord Cypher

    • amaximus167

I would hope that Cypher would be holding his guns and not have them holstered.

      • SoulFire

Could be an optional extra like the plastic Eldrad’s sword

        • amaximus167

          Could be!

      • Ed Bellamy

Maybe he is now holding the sword that is on his backpack.

        • amaximus167

fluff has always stated that it is never drawn, however, GW likes to change canon.

          • Drew_Da_Destroya

Well, it won’t be drawn until he presents it to the Emperor and it is repaired, fixing the relationship between the Unforgiven and the Fallen…

  • Old zogwort

    Its AoS dweaorfs

    • Jared van Kell

      You might be onto something.

  • DeCold

Belt-fed? Chaos for sure since by GW standarts Chaos cannot into magazine.

  • Derek Lee

Don’t forget about this belt fed classic before ruling out imperial characters.

    • Mikey Austin

And the Space Wolves Thunderwolves have some cool belt fed bolters. It’s not impossible, but somewhat uncommon.

I guess chaos, or something inquisition/custodes/sisters of Silence

  • GirenZ

Wonder if it’s one of Cypher’s dual handguns? New Cypher model inbound?

    • Chris Roy

My thoughts as soon as i saw it a new cypher model.

    • Shinnentai

      Yeah that was my guess

  • Ty Hayden

Maybe, just maybe, it is confirmation for a plastic inquisitor kit. They can use some more archaic bits as well.

  • Bradley Macduff

looks a lot like the imperial space marine incinerator rifle

  • Matthew LeBlanc

I remember a little bit ago people talked about a new cypher model.
    So it could be his.

  • georgelabour

Going to take a hail mary toss here and say it’s…

Vulkan’s super wonderful space western space pistol firing vortex rounds that make more space in space.

Which is why it has a projecting hammer, and a belt feed. They needed more space.

    • 6Cobra

Georgelabour.. are YOU being snarky about a GW product? I’m not really sure what to make of that.

      • georgelabour

I’d prefer the term ‘playfully facetious’ than snarky.

Also because if Vulkan is what’s in Cawl’s box of mystery then that comment about the pistol is going to be hilarious in hindsight.

        Wolf.

  • Talos2

    Beaky? Plastic corax obviously

  • TimW

    Necromunda….

  • grim

100% a piece from the new cypher !

  • Sparti67

    Inquisition. Possible Grey Knight.

    • Sparti67

or Black Templars. They chain and strap weapons to themselves.

      • Jared van Kell

But they do not use auto-pistols.

  • Maitre Lord Ironfist

Battlesisters seraphim Pistol hosltered. HOPE NEVER DIES!!!!

    • Jared van Kell

The Seraphim Superior would personally tear any Seraphim a new sphincter if they let their weapon get into that state.

  • Martin Cann

    Easy. It’s Marbo’s ripper pistol.

    • grim_dork

      Oh crap. . . he’s right behind you -!

      • Martin Cann

        W-what… OHHH NOOOOO!!

  • Jared van Kell

It is a House Goliath heavy stubber.

  • Iron Father Stronos

Watch it be a loyalist primarchs custom bolt pistol….

  • Bauh4us

Kal Jericho or some other Necromunda person.

  • Iconoc1ast

    Belt fed stub gun

  • grenstauf

Maybe it’s from a new heresy plastic kit? Although… it looks similar to the umbra ferrox patten.

  • grim_dork

Look at the size of the primers on those shells.

  • Ed Bellamy

    Cypher?

  • Dominic Pirrello

Cypher. My guess it’s a new pistol for a Cypher model. 😛

  • Squats…

  • EnTyme

Looks like some sort of combi-pistol to me. The positioning of the action (hammer action?) just makes no sense in relation to the area the belt is feeding into. There would have to be way too many mechanisms inside that gun for that hammer to actually strike the rounds. It makes sense to me that the hammer is actually the action for the alt-fire mode (maybe a combigrav-pistol? That may be a centrifuge above to the left of the straps). Then again, no one ever accused GW models of making perfect sense.

  • Abe Killian

    I’m guessing Cypher

  • Allgamer Man

    Cypher bolt gun 😉

  • loveone789

    squats confirmed…

  • Chaosrex

    Cypher’s Bolt pistol?…

  • MechBattler

It’s a novelty lighter for Creed’s cigars. He’s not really gone. He’s just busy outflanking an entire fleet of warships.
    CRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDD!!!

  • BrassWitch

A really cool bit for conversions :^)

  • Carey_Mahoney

The gun is holstered, but all belts are hanging down or swinging around. So, the model carrying it is on a vehicle or cavalry or just in a very dynamic pose.

  • ALittleGreeky

I want this to be new chaos marines, the loose belt of rounds swinging from the feed reminds me of their bolters. I don’t think we’ll get that lucky though 😛

  • David

    It looks steampunk

  • Ryder Frankle

Something about it says Ork cowboy to me.

  • Christopher Dean

    cypher…

  • Henry Blake

    Could be guillimans?
