The new Stormcast Eternal Models are up for pre-order this weekend and they are getting new book to boot! The Rain of Pain Train from Sigmar Continues…

  • ZeeLobby

Man those Xenos woods were painted hideously.

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

its a very weird design all together. Looks like something my 12 year old self might have made from pipe cleaners and milliput.

      • ZeeLobby

Yeah. Doesn’t help that they used all the colors of the rainbow.

      • Aezeal

Yeah I don’t mind all the details and the stuff that is attacking you.. but the basic from just a bit more treelike would have been nice. I like the Aeldari ruins though.

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

I think it might have looked ok if it came with a scenic base like the Citadel Wood, it would have tied it all together.

          • LordRao

            Like a certain rug…

    • kingcobra668

Every new thread makes me wonder more and more why you’re even in this hobby. Every thread you comment and it’s virtually always negative.

Have you tried… Not playing warhammer?

      • ZeeLobby

I mean dude, they’re hideous. LoL. I’m sorry you let your fandom overcome common aesthetic sense, but I’m much more excited to see what other painters com up with.

And it’s not “virtually always negative”. You just come here to defend and hear echos. So it’s all you look for.

I play about 5 different games right now. I come here and comment on articles for most of them.

        • Aezeal

Well I’m often enthousiastic about GW scuplts.. but this isn’t my thing I’d say.. I doubt it’s just the paint job atm.. And I was REALLY looking forward to have some alternative forest stuff for my Sylvaneth.

I’m stilll not sure this won’t be used in an outcast formation or something for AoS.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I think they might not be bad with a paint job. Something a little more 3D would be awesome. Buildings. Something. Haha.

          • Aezeal

Well I just got a 2nd hand lot of
Dreadstone blight, garden of morr, skullvanmanse, warhammer village (basicly mansion and seperate tower and chapel and walls + fences), FW well, warhammer fortress.
So I’m good with buildings for now (and only 225 total delivered at my door by previous owner).. yes BOLS.. be jealous.

          • jeff white

            holy wow.

          • euansmith

I was jealous last time you mentioned this… now I’m just freakin’ livid 😉

          • dave long island

Sure, only $225, but you also must give up your firstborn son and your immortal soul. Still, all in all, a pretty darn good deal… 🙂

          • Aezeal

            225 euro to be honest.

          • dave long island

            Not bad indeed!

          • euansmith

Some things, I think, even a cool paint job can’t save; but then, I’ve been disproved by community members versions of the horrible River Troll minis, so maybe I’ll be proved wrong again. Here’s hoping.

          • Challenge accepted?
If I collect them as my next army.

          • GrimTeef

Awww, I quite like the River Trolls. Still want a set for my baby Destruction forces…

      • Jared Swenson

ZeeLobby is actually fairly supportive of AoS, he just remains critical of it, which you can do despite loving the game. At least that’s the impression I get from his posts. I consider myself an AoS fan, but there are still a few things about it that rub me wrong.

        • ZeeLobby

Agreed. I will be fully back on board with 40K as well, as soon as they get things re-balanced in 8th, hopefully following the AoS method of general handbooks.

Thank you for understand that being critical doesn’t mean you’re a “hater” or “troll”.

          • Aezeal

Well the fact you have bad taste in mini’s overall doesn’t help either :D.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah yeah yeah. Just not a fan of blinged out rainbow warriors :D.

          • Aezeal

You can paint them in any color you like.. but I’d just do SC titanium colored myself.

          • euansmith

Do you do heat distressing on them; that cool rainbow effect you get on titanium after it has cooled down? If so, pictures please!

          • Aezeal

            No no..
first I don’t collect SC.. I WOULD do them titanium if I did.
second I paint mediocre at best so things like that would be WAY above my skill level.

          • GrimTeef

There was a Warhammer TV video painting article that Duncan did describing how to do that rainbow heat-distressed look that you’re referring to, if you were looking for a tutorial.

          • euansmith

Are you hatin’ on trolls now?! You troll hater! 😉

      • ThorOdinson

To be fair, NOBODY is playing Warhammer these days. Certainly not those people playing Age of Sigmar.

        • Steven S.

We actually have a massive blood bowl scene and a bunch of people jumping into AOS here in Indianapolis. There has always been a massive 40k crowd, but I know that I am waiting for the new ruleset. The vast number of players I have talked to would like a simplification of the ruleset and a return of Apoc being it’s own thing. Of course if you only interact with people on this site or a handful of others you would think the hobby is all doom and gloom. I think they people having fun with warhammer are just out there having fun and not on here being negative.

          • euansmith

Hey, being negative IS fun ! 😉

          • Aezeal

Euan… that is not you unless you have a 2nd personality. Don’t try to be Zee.. one of him is enough (as opposed to the real whiners – which he is not – where one would be too much).

      • jeff white

or… we could tell gw through these forums that they are effin up. and they are. at least that is how i see it. cuz i for one will never buy a $tormcast IPternal. And if they keep going in disregard of the negative feedback then fine but as a fan for more than twenty years i owe it to myself and to them to share an educated and invested opinion. no?

        • dave long island

‘$tormcast IPternal’… LOL… Clever! You should trademark that… beat GW at their own game… lol

        • DJ860

Do you honestly think GW employees that have a say in this kind of thing are actually sitting there, trawling through the comments on this forum? That, is laughable.

          • jeff white

            yeah, yooz a funny guy.

        • Aezeal

Well I will not buy anything else except Sylvaneth and Woodelves the next few years at least… doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for these guys.

      • zeno666

        You poor soul.
This hobby is more than just warhammer.

      • SundaySilence

While I agree with the sentiment towards certain posters on here (he really isn’t the only one whose brand of “constructive criticism” grows tiresome from its constant presence); he is very right about those trees.

The bizarre, mismatched colours don’t hide the fact that they are also bad models. Awkward looking for the sake of it, I think. I get it’s 40k and alien plants etc but it doesn’t excuse the poor sculpting.

        • Aezeal

But luckily.. where Zee is moping I’ll always be here to balance it with reality… I’m only having a very hard time in this topic since these things seem horrible.
Luckily I just bougth a 3×3′ swamp mat (mousemat fabric) from Deepcut studio’s and cut them into 16 bases for GW forests :D. So now I can really start playing Sylvaneth and swamp the table.

          http://www.deepcutstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/miniature-wargames-gaming-mat-swap-4×6.jpg

Yes it really looks very good and is easily cut using a pair of sturdy scissors.

  • Carl Frieder Kathe

the Xenos plants may also grow in one or more of the mortal Realms in Age of Sigmar.

  • Kevin Maloney

Yes. Stormcast. Very nice. Where is my Khaine-damned Aelf battletome?

    • PrimoFederalist

Right? From just a business perspective, they’re losing so much opportunity by quadrupling down Stormcast Eternals when so many other races/factions have nothing. I probably would have bought into AoS if they’d had an Aelf release, but now that money will go into 30k (rather than some into AoS and some into 30k).

      • Still waiting on the Skaven one myself, and the rumored new steampunk’d aesthetic.

        • GrimTeef

I’m hoping for a clean-steampunk-looking Steamhead Duardin force this year… Would be the one Order faction I would really like to see and maybe collect…

      • zeno666

They’re the space marines of AoS. So every 7th release might be something else.
This time you get some crappy looking terrain.

    • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

This is as good as a regular release. New models and an updated BT, a good sight, since this proves GW will be willing to support some other factions.

Better to update older BTs now instead letting them get older and unfitting with the newer ones.

Sure, only if they update my Seraphon BT this year too.

      • luke snell

let’s face it, a lot of people are playing SCE so it makes sense to support what sells. I totally understand the frustration of not seeing ANY love given to the old world armies/factions (I actually rolled my eyes a bit at these new releases, despite the fact that I may or may not have purchased two boxes of gryphounds…) But outside of the Warrior Brotherhood I think the Stormcast have been struggling. With the new version of Battletomes from the Sylvanteh on, makes sense to just one and done get the SCE caught up and then proceed with getting everyone else fleshed out properly.

  • Jim Morr

    Wow. Fat angels.

    • zeno666

Haha yeah, Cherubs in power armour 😉
Should make them the same small size as space marines I guess.
      Gah! Plot-twist!
Golden Marines will arrive in Warhammer 40k Age of More Space Marines!

      • euansmith

One of the “Lost” Primarchs = Sigmar! 😀

        • zeno666

          Wooow!

  • kingcobra668

    Dude has a cell phone

  • PanzerDan

Peta sends a letter to Gw. Gw release Gold warrior wearing pelts and warhound GG

    • Jared Swenson

Those are not real pelts. They’re stardust pelts 😛

    • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

They announced this release weeks before the PETA letter.

Is not like PETA knows anything about GW, tho…

      • Jared van Kell

Whilst PETA have done some good they are by and large in the same league as fourth wave feminists; Sitting behind twitter accounts and crying foul at things that only make them look stupid.

  • Jared Swenson

The prosecutors, liberators, and judicators are reboxes, and dare I say, good deals. They were doubled the minis in them and not doubled the price.

    • Dennis Finan Jr

      The javelin ones are sweet

      • GrimTeef

The Javelineers look like all the same pose from that photo there… But they are the alternate build in the Prosecutors box, aren’t they? Guess the painters only managed to get one finished before it was time to announce them…

        • Dennis Finan Jr

Ya i think so. However i like there weapins and shields better for gameplay

    • ZeeLobby

      Yeah, definitely more reasonably priced.

      • Aezeal

Still hopeing for the same treatment on the tree revenants and Kurnoth hunters.. I’ve got a box of both since they are just awesome models… but the price is very old school GW (kinda high).

        • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I’m sure they will come down. It seems to be their new thing. Release expensive boxes when hype is big, release more affordable bundles/repacks later.

    • ThorOdinson

It definitely says something, though. If GW thought they could keep selling five for $50 they would. That they’re now selling ten for $62, a 38% price drop(!), hints that they’re pretty poor sellers. When has GW ever had such a massive price drop?

      • Aezeal

Not as far as I can remember on single boxes.. only the start collecting stuff has discounts (in my life time :D)

        • ThorOdinson

Exactly. And yet the Liberators, Judicators, and Prosecutors all got discounted, and big discounts at 38% off each (For example, does anyone really think GW would drop the price of a Space Marine Tactical Squad from $40 to $25? Yeah, right. That’s not going to happen). That smells more like a garage sale than anything else.

          • Aezeal

I’m pretty sure SC are not doing bad though.

          • thereturnofsuppuppers

Compared to the start collecting or starter set, the boxes of stormcast troops are pretty expensive.

I can see the savvy buyer ignoring them, and purchasing the former.

          • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

Not really. What you said can only apply to Liberators; still the Easy to Build and Starter Set sprues are mono-pose and can only be build with a hammer and shield.

The Prosecutors you get from the Starter Set are also mono-pose and can’t be build with different equipment.

The Judicators are not available on any Starter kit.

Ironically, the reboxes affected the SC! kit negatively, since now you are buying half of the Liberators and Prosecutors kits. You used to save £45, now you only save £21.25. That’s huge.

          • matty199

Hopefully they re do it as it was pretty awful value compared to the others and its worse now

          • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

What? the Stormcast SC! was THE best deal before the reboxing. £45 is 90% off.

Now is not the worst, but certainly is less attractive now. Yet, is not like you would actually want more than one; the Lord-Celestant and a pair of Retributors can’t compare to stuff like Skeleton Horde, Flesh-eater Courts and Seraphon SC! kits, since those have more options to build. The Stormcast SC! is more of an expansion to the Starter Set.

And they will never remake a SC! I mean, that’s the point, “start”.

          • euansmith

I think this might be comparing apples with oranges. A large part of GWs fan base already has a huge number of marines, so maybe they only sell large amounts of small numbers of marines as people top up their army. The Stormcast are still fairly new, so maybe GW hope to sell large amounts of more minis, but realise that people might balk at the cost.

      • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

Or not, they dropped prices for Warriors of Chaos (Skullcrushers and Knights used to have only half of the current models per kit for the same price back in 8E, the Warriors and others used to be around 30% more expensive, and some other too IIRC), Savage Orcs (almost 30% more expensive for twice the models) and Mournfangs (almost the same as way as the WoC cavalry).

GW have been doing this some time before, and it’s good to see they keep doing this.

Hopefully, some day Varanguards and Dracoths will get the same treatement…

        • luke snell

I think there is the added bonus too of encouraging ten-man squads in these re-boxes as opposed to the minimum 5 actually makes for better game play.

          • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

Might be too, certainly some units play better on bigger units (Mournfangs, for example), and the Arcanite battlelines, indeed, come with twice the models needed for a single unit. Yet, the Liberators are solid enough to play on 5-man troops.

I’d say that this is more of a way to encourage the customers to buy more and not just the new models.

Also, it was quite stupid to sell 5 Liberators for £30 while a Chaos Warriors Regiment costs £5 less, has 16 miniatures and have basically the same profile and abilities as the Liberators.

    • euansmith

      Cool!

  • Sparti67

Fulgrim is now a Stormcast Eternal?

  • BaronSnakPak

Those vanguard hunters are going to be mean on the table. They get outflanking, and can run and shoot every turn.

Kinda funny that AoS is a game that’s primarily about melee, but the posterboy army is all about shooting. Bloodbound will be even more worthless against them now.

  • jeff white

seriously i can’t get over the bowmen in such bulky plate armor. fantasy doesn’t have to mean unrealistic.

    • euansmith

In the words of the late great Paul Daniels (he is dead isn’t he), “Noooooow, that’s magic!”

      • jeff white

yup, thanks for the education again.
        exactly.

  • euansmith

I’m not being snarky here; I really like those new options for some super cool, ornate, true-scale Space Marines and Space Marine Scouts. Their little Gryph buddies are neat too.

  • Simon Chatterley

Save yourself time and money by gluing Twiglets together for your Xenos forests. Then when the game is finished you also have a nutritious snack for the trip home.

    • euansmith

You would need to glue them together with Marmite, of course.

      • Simon Chatterley

curses…now I need to conduct a study into the suitability of marmite as a glue.

  • AwesomePizza

    sigh I miss Fantasy.

  • Kinsman

Correct me if I’m wrong but there are no points in this new book, right? We still need to wait on the GH2 for that. Seems like a weird book release if we don’t have the new Handbook, yet.

    • GrimTeef

That’s a good question. I would hope they have points for everything in the tome, I would be kinda miffed if I couldn’t use my awesome gryph-cavalry in pitched battles games until Summer rolls around. This could be a change up with the way Battletomes are done, as well, for all we know, and the points could be in a chart in the back of the tome.
