Tristan Durant new model is out. Lets take a look and the guy that can see the shadows.

What Is It?

Tristan Durant is the grown up Warcaster for Protectorate of Menoth. Previously you could only use him as a junior of sorts. But, instead of just leading a small battlegroup this guy can lead his whole army. He is a decent spell slinger and helps his battlegroup see hidden things.

What are Tristan Durant’s Abilities?

Tristan sports a pretty average caster stat line. Nothing special in the melee department. DEF14 is pretty easy to hit these days and ARM16 is not going to keep you safe from anything that boosts damage. At focus 7 combined with a Hierophant and a Wrack he has some decent spell slinging or battlegroup powering. He will need it because his feat wants you to run jack heavy.

Field Marshal [True Sight] Some players thought that Durant could be ok vs Una2. However, with DEF15 griffons it really didn’t matter if you could see them as Redeemers still can’t hit. Reckoners can’t 1 shot them and it is to late if they get to you. However, now that Una2 is a little less power princess you can now utilize Durant2 more. Seeing through clouds is a big deal vs Lich2/Haley3/ and HighReclaimer.

  • Chasten: Having to damage is a little dicey if you are trying to remove something like Arcane Shield. However, very useful vs things like admonition or polarity shield. Also, a good cheap nuke to sling during feat turn since he can cast a potential 8 of these if you don’t want to boost.
  • Cleansing Fire: Decent nuke and can damage some higher armor targets if you boost.
  • Hand of the Creator: This is great for a jack heavy army and could leave the potential of not taking any mechanics to save a point or 2.
  • Inviolable Resolve: Great buff for Eye of Truth or a Templar.
  • Manifest Destiny: Hanging out with Thagrosh2, I am a big Dervish fan and this makes them pretty swell.

Feat: Prayers of War
Menoth can spam jacks for days with the 7pt economical Dervish. While I think Amon and Durant get more out of it then Durant, he still has the spell slinging to give him a different advantage. If you are looking for max value this guy is the Max VALUE FOCUS KING. During the feat a battlegroup of 7 jacks, Hierophant, 2 Vassals of Menoth, and Wrack with Durant effectively produce about 32 focus. That is 7 power up, 7 Durant, feat produces another 14, and 2vassals+hierophant+ wrack is another net 4. That is pretty sick.
Your battlegroup is almost fully powered and you can spell sling like a boss. Unfortunately, you are still hitting with that Focus7 stat for spells.

What Does a Durant List Look Like?

This is a max value list. Remember you don’t need mechanics because of the spell “Hand of the Creator”. You can rain down redeemer fire on sentry stones, shoot stealth-ed solos with wild abandon, or sling spells at things behind clouds. Eye and Scourge are a pretty nasty tandem with Arcane Vortex to prevent shenanigans and ignoring of buffs.
This is a very assassin based list. If the enemy caster doesn’t have spell defense or shield guards you can put a lot of ranged damage on them.

Revenant’s Final Thought:

Durant definitely has some unique flavor to him and can run a battlegroup pretty hard. He does lack infantry support and doesn’t really have any speed buffs to offer. I give him a solid B, he isn’t OP as the Sevy’s of the world and Durst or Amon are arguably better at running big battlegroups.

~BOLS what do you think of Durant? Have you seen him on the field in his 2nd incarnation? Please share in the comments below.
