~ Shadow’s Over Hammerhal arrives this weekend – look sharp

  • Roughneck

You do know it’s not called Hero Quest it’s Warhammer Quest right? It even says it on the box

    • cudgel

      Think is joke !?!?

      • Roughneck

No it really isn’t, you can tell by the context of how the sentence is constructed. Its usual misrepresentation

  • Sleeplessknight

On today’s episode of ‘Repack of stuff you already have!’

    • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

Or not. I would like to get this just for the Chaos troops to start a small undivided force.

Yet, the lack of variety still bugs me. Hopefully they will release expansion packs later on. I would love to see a Slaughterbrute or a Chaos Lord on any flavor with a discount.

    • taithays

You must be one of the lucky guys who can buy everything that get released because I, like a lot of people, don’t even have a third of what is in that box.

      • Sleeplessknight

They could’ve at least chose some different characters to include. Specifically, ones that weren’t in the Warhammer Quest Mighty Heroes or Arcane Heroes sets. There are MANY different other plastic characters that could’ve gone in this.

And as someone who picked up a copy of Gorechosen, I’d rather not be able to make a small unit of the same Slaughterpriest. Forget pawning him off on ebay. He’s available from so many different sources, the secondary market will be so saturated with him that I’d have to pay someone to take it off my hands!

  • Bearpunlawl

Really dissapointed we’re getting a bunch of incohesive chaos units, a boss thats already a hero, less hero’s than in silver tower, already existing hero’s and no new models what so ever.

I am sure a lot of people will get this and will be very happy with it like most of GW products but this is not what I was hoping for after being blown away by how awesome silver tower was.

    • Mitchell

      Anything to sell kairac acolytes

      • Roughneck

        Acolytes tbh sell really well

        • thereturnofsuppuppers

They are great for conversions. A good non specific freeguild base to add realm themed bits to.

          • Roughneck

Agree they are a fantastic sculpt and Unit in general

    • ZeeLobby

would have been cool if they used each expansion to introduce new AoS factions.

      • Drpx

Or y’know, revitalized the old ones. “Brytohneeans” could raid a crypt belonging to the “Toomb Kyngs” for one idea.

        • Roughneck

The former will never come back as their game mechanics and play sytyle for formations and rank bonuses etc don’t work with AoS, that’s why they were scrapped in the first place

          • Drpx

No, like King Arthur they will return when Britain’s need is most dire, and by that I mean when GW’s numbers are down. Genestealer cults came back after all.

          • thereturnofsuppuppers

Bretonnians will come back, but with Limos.

          • Roughneck

I spoke to alot of game designers at GWs Heresy Weekender and they have said they wont as they just dont work within AoS’s rule set and play style which is why they were scrapped.

          • Drpx

            GW say lotta things.

          • Roughneck

Black shirt says it all with your comment, they really aren’t games Designers are they? They stated all along this is the reason Bretonnia went

        • Vicent Martín Bonet

You mean Volpone and Obisidian dinasty, those are their names.

      • luke snell

couldn’t agree more; thought they had started a good precedence with Silvertower. Given the setting this would have been the perfect opportunity to give us some of the new dwarf factions. I like that they are branching out into city life, but not bolstering that with any new characters to flesh out the new city dwellings is a complete, disappointing miss.

    • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

      *heroes.

I lol’d for that “incohesive” chaos, I mean, is Chaos, that’s kinds their thing.

Yet, this could’ve been quite better. I’d prefered to get a bit more variety instead 20 thematic Marauders, and a Chaos Lord on foot instead the CSL. The problem here is not the lack of new sculpts, but the lack of variety. I’m dissapointed for not seeing a big boss fight, thi is a dungeon cralwer after all.

Hopefully we will see some expansion packs later on.

      • Bearpunlawl

With incohesive I mean that in my opinion it would be more interesting if the group of enemies kept to a theme. And yes I do mean that “chaos” is not cohesive enough of a theme in a set like this

  • Champildhir

    What a big MEH…

  • thereturnofsuppuppers

Tiles are disappointing, and no furniture.

A general meh all round then I suppose.

Especially compared to Silver Tower, Tzeentch and the new Stormcast releases.

  • Rainthezangoose

For me what will make or break it is if it’s going to bring RPG elements from heroquest into warhammerquest. That and they better be comparable with silver tower. That alone would sell this to any fan of silver tower IMO.

  • ellobouk

“Johnson, Warhammer Quest is selling like hotcakes, we need an idea for a follow up!”
“Ok, so we do more of the same”
    “Brilliant”
“The bad guy is Chaos, again”
    “Perfect”
“Repack a bunch of existing models instead of making more”
    “Genius”
“And we chaos real confusion by making an existing hero the villain”
    “Get this man a raise!”

    • Zedatkins Zed

Agree with this. Funny though becuase if I’m right nothing in WHQ:ST was an existing model (at the time). The pink horrors are bespoke. All the heroes and villains were new (I know Gaunt summoner had a different mini but this was a new sculpt). Where GW got the idea that a game with ZERO new minis will sell like Silver Tower is beyond me. This is just baffling. Maybe the game itself will be good and maybe there’ll be a new cogsmith but why no new Aelfs – we got 2 in Silver Tower?!

      • Vicent Martín Bonet

Because it usually takes them between 24 to 16 months to make new minis and the like. ST was less than 12 months ago. I honestly prefer this to not having supporting of the game for two years.

  • Greg Betchart

I am sadly not getting this, due to a lack of any reason being presented to do so.

  • Burnt Angel

Looks like it was ‘rushed out’ to capitalise on the success of Silver Tower, but with no real understanding that it was the miniatures that sold that game. This will probably be a big fail. And deserves to be, so that we get something better in the next set.

    • Zedatkins Zed

I agree. I’m really disappointed in this. Jeez not 1 decent boss. I’m blown away by how poor this is. The only selling point for this is if the cogsmith is a new model – but after this I’m not holding my breath. I normally try to find the good in these releases but thus far I can’t…

      • luke snell

they could have at least given us a new boss to fight if they weren’t going to give any new characters or enemies. a new, re-tooled standard Minotaur would have been awesome.

        • Zedatkins Zed

Totally agree. Although looking at the actually GW release it does look the rules will be interesting. They badly need to give WHQ:SoH an enemy expansion though – but the Silver Tower enemies will work here (I assume) so then it just rules for how chaos heroes from WHQST can work as enemies here (The rules for almost everyone as a Hero but not villains). One glimmer of hope for me is the Cinderfall reference – this looks like a proper DnD/Mordheim element where Role Play and levelling is possible. That means character customization. Mentioning Mordheim it would been interesting to see what a AOS Carnival of Chaos would look like? Sheesh I’m starting to talk myself into this :/

  • I’m still looking forward to this game. The big thing is I’m not buying this with the intent to start an army.
Now if only they’d make one of these with a bunch of Ourrks sneaking around a dungeon lootin and fighting and making a mess of things.
I’m looking forward to that one.

    • euansmith

They could be searching for Squigs, in “Hair-dos ov da Lost Orc”.

      • lol. Love it. I was thinking maybe they’re collecting magic rings and belts. an “expodiscission of gooooold!” (I’m a wrestling fan)
Can the Orcs get the belts of total warhammer domination! Can they take the Belts of chaos!
        The competition is endless?

  • Donald Lindsey

2 Sigmarines? Not enough characters elsewhere…

    • Zedatkins Zed

1 – Loremaster is an Aelf

      • Donald Lindsey

My apologies, assumed loremaster was the guy pictured with the hound…

      • Dennis Finan Jr

        Ya thats the castellant

  • Ghaniman

    Silvertower Lite?

  • Zethnar

“a 30-page, illustrated section detailing the backstory of the quest, the heroes and the mighty city of Hammerhal itself.”

What a waste of space. Why not dedicate those pages to downtime rules and flesh out a campaign system, since as far as I can tell that was the biggest complaint most people had about the previous box.

But no, lets make a thick rulebook and just fill it with useless fluff and art. Nice work completely ignoring community feedback yet again, GW. At least we got a few decent sounding dungeon crawlers coming from other manufacturers over the next 12 months.

Needless to say, I won’t be buying this.

    • generalchaos34

Fluff is the tool you get new people interested in your world, its also a little something called IMMMERSION. This product is not necessarily aimed at the war gaming crowd as much as its a stepping stone for the board game crowd into wargaming

      • Zedatkins Zed

Yes, these WHQ games are for roleplayers. Wargamers get the bonus of cheaper minis but the game is not for them. The path to glory campaign system is actually fine IMHO. It would be nice if they included the WHQ heroes in it though but all that would take is an errata with 2 or 3 paragraphs not a 30 page book.

    • I don’t agree with that at all.
It sounds like Your expecting these to be something they’re not. They’re not a starter set. You can do that kinda thing but that’s not what they are. I’d love a down time book like you described but this is only the second release under AoS Warhammer Quest. It would be a waste if they rushed out that kind of book.
What community feedback are you referring to?

      • kobalt60

‘Community feedback’ is netspeak for ‘my opinion’

      • Zethnar

If you poke your head outside of this blog you’ll see the biggest criticism levelled at the silver tower was the fact that they dropped the ‘roleplay’ book from the previous iteration of Warhammer Quest.

I don’t see what ‘this only being the second release’ has to do with anything, all that stuff came with the original version of Warhammer Quest without it having to go through 3 or 4 different products to get there. I guess if you want to argue that Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest represent those previous products then even AHQ included a complex and indepth character advancement system that some argue is better than the system in WHQ, it was also GW’s first dungeon crawler published under their own branding.

I don’t know where you get the idea that I was expecting this to be some kind of starter set though. In fact I’m not even sure what you’re talking about when you say ‘It’s not some kind of starter set’, the blurb from GW even specifically states it’s a standalone game.

  • Xodis

Im still excited, less excited than I was for Silver Tower, but still this could be awesome if they managed to upgrade the narrative in a complete way. Turning this into an RPG starting point would be amazing, adding rules for creating our own heroes would be perfection.

  • Emperor’s Champion

shouldn’t it be lord castellant with gryphound?

  • Cristhian Mario Landa Rivera

Oh man, there is a notable difference between this comment section to the current, now that we know that there are things like shops and rest zones included.
