The Stormcast Eternals Vanguard have arrived to outflank your wallet – come check out what you’re getting in the box!
The Vanguard has arrived for the Stormcast Eternals! These new models are sleek, agile and ready to rumble on our Tabletop Spotlight, curtesy of our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy:
We cover three of the latest releases: The Vanguard-Hunters, the Gryph-Hounds, and the Warscoll Cards.
The Vanguard-Hunters are lighter-armored than their Shield-weilding cousins. They have some new tricks up their sleeves and some new weapons to boot! The models are just as you would expect: fantastic quality. I know not everyone is a huge fan of the aesthetics of the Stormcasts – but I don’t think anyone can complain that the new model kits Games Workshop produces are low quality.
In the box, you get two sets of these sprues – each set allows you construct 5 Vanguard-Hunters. You’ll probably also end up with lots of left over bits as well…perfect for those crazy modeling conversions later!
Next-up are the Gryph-Hounds. Now, I’m sure everyone is familiar with the legend of Archibald – well now you can create your own legend! These loyal beasts are also quick and deadly – plus look at those faces:
It’s like someone cross the regal qualities of a bird and the strength of a large cat or something! Overall, the sprues are pretty straight forward – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t high-quality as well. I was particularlly pleased with the feather/fur on the necks of these models. You get another 2 sets of sprues so you can create a total of 6 hounds.
Finally, that brings us to the new Warscroll Cards. For starters, these cards are much larger than I was expecting. They are oversized for easy reading and to insure you get all the text on the cards. One other plus is that this set contains all 31 Warscrolls – even the units that are coming out this weekend, it’s almost like they planned it… Now, I’m sure lots of folks are wondering why even buy these cards – you can get them all for free on the app. That’s entirely true! But some folks (myself included) like to have the physical rules infront of them. And while I have access to the battletome, these cards are much faster reference. And now, I don’t have to print out my own copy and laminate them. I can be a lazy gamer with these cards and I’m okay with that!
The Battletome also came out this week, but we wanted to give that one a longer look as well. Overall, it was a pretty solid release. I know Stormcast vets are going to be excited about some new units and options and I think these are a good supplement to an existing force. Besides, who doesn’t love a well timed outflanking maneuver!?
Bold raiders and expert scouts, the Vanguard-Hunters are the elite infantry of the Vanguard Auxiliary Chambers. Battle-hardened veterans, they are experts at using the terrain to their advantage. Their daring guerilla raids necessitate constant movement – more than once has a thought-unassailable position been scaled and destroyed by a band of Vanguard-Hunters who have made themselves invisible during the madness of battle. Their weapons suit their role – heavy-bladed swords and short-hafted axes cut through brush, briar and flesh, and boltstorm pistols are easy to fire on the move.
Pack-hunting creatures from the realm of Azyr, Gryph-hounds are noble beasts who detest corruption. Their sharp senses pierce deception as easily as their beaks and claws shred the flesh of the unfaithful. Packs of Gryph-hounds are known to ally themselves to those fighting for a just cause, and they offer loyalty and protection to their companions.
A glorious vision of golden celestial light, a living embodiment of the God-King’s might, the Stormcast Eternals are messengers of vengeance armed with the might of stars. Once-mortal champions of Order forged by Sigmar into an astonishing fighting force, hurled down from the heavens to meet the forces of Chaos head-on, they wreak bloody revenge on the Dark Gods, the corruptors of the realms.
Fingers Crossed that the other factions get some of the same treatment – I’d like a set of Chaos cards…
