Trollblood Pummeler Crew goes BOOM

Today we check out some new artillery with the Trollblood Pummeler Crew. Big guns galore!


What Is It?

This is the Trollblood Pummeler Crew unit. It is a mobile piece of artillery with great range and damage. It is Field allowance 2 and costs 6 points.

What Does the Pummeler Crew Do?

The Pummeler crew has some very trolly stats with only DEF12 and ARM14 with 3 models. They have MAT/RAT5.

The gun itselfis RNG16 POW14 AOE3 while the rest of the crew can defend themselves in melee with RNG .5″ POW10.

The Special Stuff:
Mobile Artillery: it is slow topping out at SPD4″
Take Up: You have to kill it 3x
Arcing Fire: Shooting over stuff is fun!
Bounce: Here is a new rule just for the Pummeler. Your blast template moves again and only can go forward not backward! Also the blast is POW10 so it can threathen most things.

Synergies and List with the Pummeler:

If it aims the Pummler goes to a respectable RAT7. It is only unboosted POW14 on direct hits so it is not scaring heavies to much. This is a good piece to pick off models that are susceptible to blast damage. If you reall want that accuracy you might consider Dozer+Smigg’s Lucky Shot animus. This brings the Pummeler’s RAT up effectively to a 9 when aiming.

Gunbjorn is probably the caster to take a Pummeler with. He can increase it’s range to absurd 20″ with Snipe and his feat will keep it relatively safe from return fire for at least 1 round. This list really goes all in with the ranged game and leaves a little melee to clean up the heavies that make it across. It can really reach out from wayback to cause problems.

It is great vs light models but at 6 points it is a little over priced. You can get a full unit of Northkin Fire eaters who only need to be set on fire to lay waste to your opponent. They also all have 5 boxes compared to the 1 box models of the pummeler. I think it would have been better at 4 points. Fun model and kit to put together and worth picking 1 up but probably not 2.

    You are forgetting that the Pummler has *Inaccurate so it takes -4 to attack rolls no matter what. So at Rat 9 it is shooting at a Rat 5

      From the ones I use, that rule is no longer on the card in the new edition. And you get an extra inch of movement for every grunt in the unit. I don’t know if that is standard for all of them, but checking out the new cards is worth it. They also have take up so they are more resilient.

    I really like the rules for weapon crews in 3rd edition. Way more mobile, way more resilient, and actually work taking.
