Warlord: Test of Honour Preview

TOH-Cover-web

A new samurai skirmish game that pits clans against one another.

via Warlord:

The Emperor is weak, challenged by the might of the Shogun. The Clan lords align themselves with one side or the other, taking advantage of the turmoil to settle old grudges and seize new territory. Their loyal samurai, consummate warriors trained in the art of the blade, must do their bidding without question.

Test of Honour is a skirmish wargame played with roughly 5-20 models on each side. Players select their force before each game based around a samurai hero along with one or two loyal samurai companions and a variety of clan soldiers.

Battles are swift and bloody as players alternate acting with one of their warriors – moving and fighting to achieve the objective of the scenario, whether that be cutting down the enemy, defending an outpost or finding and protecting a spy.

Play through the scenarios in sequence to tell a tale of bitter clan rivalry, betrayal and revenge!

With each battle, your samurai will learn new skills, and perhaps even take the shameful path of deceit and trickery to gain victory – such choices are the ultimate test of honour.

The game will be available to pre-order later this month, and Warlord will be releasing more details soon.

Rising Sun from CMON just seems more interesting to me, but I guess I like the more fantastical side of Japanese lore.

Checkout Kensei made by Zenit… available as big-battles (WHFB style) or skirmish. Nice model range. Historical and fantasy units.

Have you played? The minis are ace but I have been hesitant because the rules seemed…….complex. I Genuinely want to know.

        • khegrow

unfortunately not. sry. My friends didn’t want to join a big-size-battle system after WHFB got AoS’ed..
But I am tempted to try the skirmish system.

You can use Lion Rampant (Japan version is available on forums there), for large Skrimish and for small Skirmish you can use excellent Ronin or Daisho!

The minis for Rising Sun look totally amazing. I hope that they are more like GW size rather than Zombiecide size.

    • Cergorach

CMON Rising Sun will be acquired. But more Samurai era rulessets that are good/fun are always great. I have a relatively large collection of Clan War minis laying around, so minis a plenty for something like this.

That’s pretty tight. I’m new to the samurai gaming world, so I’ve been looking at a bunch of stuff.

And here I just got into Bushido…damn modern day with options…

Dammit, another game, I wish these guys would finally publish Napoleon in Russia for black powder, rather than creating new games
