The Shadow War: Armageddon terrain is going to be a hot commodity. The hobby community is going to love this stuff!

A few weeks ago, Games Workshop unveiled Shadow War: Armageddon. Fans of Necromunda and 40k both were excited about the prospect of a skirmish sized game returning to 40k. We’ve been showcasing the rules as things have come out but there is one aspect to this game that folks seem to be forgetting: The Terrain!

Here is an example of what you can do with more than a few of the terrain kits. The folks at Games Workshop have put together this awesome looking “vertical” game board – it’s a massive promethium rig with it’s own scenic water base. This thing stands 4’10” tall and looks truly impressive (even if it is a tad impractical to play on).

But prospect of a project like this hopefully gets the hobby side of your brain going. And because it’s modular you can really go bonkers with this terrain kit. The possibilities are endless.  I also really like the fact that while this terrain is “Ad Mech” or “Imperium” themed, you can use it for just about any race or display. It fits perfectly with the Genestealer cultis0t and Orks would want to dismantle and salvage it for parts. Heck, even the Eldar could battle over this terrain given the right reason – and that’s the point!

GW showcases some of the modular options for this terrain.

Much like the old school hive city bulkhead terrain and the shipping crates, this new Shadow War: Armageddon terrain also helps to fill out the visual identity of daily life in the Imperium. Not every building is a blown-out gothic cathedral or military grade landing pad. This terrain highlights the industrial side of the Grim Dark.

So glad this is getting updated!

I can’t wait to get my hands on this modular terrain and come up with some creative ways to add it to the tabletop. I’m really hoping my FLGS pops a few of the boxes for a Terrain builder day. It’s a great way to spruce up the gaming tables for your FLGS – if they aren’t planning on hosting one why not ask them about it. Who doesn’t want to play on awesome terrain?

What crazy hobby projects are going to do with the Shadow War Terrain?
