Coal Baron is a pretty straightforward game. You’re part of a coal mining company and you’ve got some orders to fill. You need to match the correct trains to the right tracks and fill their carts with coal. The better you are at managing your coal and trains the more profit you can make and win the game. It sounds simple but you’ve only got 3 “loading” areas to contend with. Oh, and lets not forget about the limited number of workers you have to boss around. Suddenly this game is sounding a lot more stressful…

Again, the objective is simple: fulfill the most valuable orders to make the most profit out of the competition. But the hard part is really planning your turns and dealing with the hands you’ve been dealt – this is a card game remember! Dealing with that ambiguity and adapting your turn on the fly is why this game is both stressful and fun. If you play your cards right, you’ll be able to come out ahead, but with a little luck (good or bad) your friends might be nipping at your heels too.

Component wise, this is a pretty well constructed set for the game. Each player has a special player board and an associated number of cards to go with it. The art style is clean and realistic with a slight cartoonish look. This is a game for pretty much all ages (+10) so it’s perfect for family game nights. If you’ve looking for a new one to try out that’s going to keep you interested the entire time then check out Coal Baron the Great Card Game! The rules can be found HERE and it’s in stores now.

Coal Baron The Great Card Game

The city of Essen, Germany at the turn of the 20th century was a center for coal mining in Europe. Immerse yourself in the dark world of coal mining as you extract coal from pits, load coal to wagon trains, and then rail your coal off to distant locations in search of fortunes.

Coal Baron: The Great Card Game is a standalone game based on the very popular board game, Coal Baron, originally published in 2013. With innovative mechanisms and almost 240 cards, Coal Baron: The Great Card Game creates an experience that feels very distinct from, yet is just as intense as, the original game.
