40K: Shadow War Multiplayer Mayhem

Games Workshop has put out a FREE new scenario for playing Multiplayer Games of Shadow War: Armageddon.

Shadow War: Armageddon has been a pretty great distraction lately. The game is fast, furious and works perfectly with league play. Most missions are designed with 2 players in mind, but now Games Workshop has just put out a brand new FREE scenario for 3 or 4 teams to square off. Check it out:

Download the rules HERE

These rules are pretty straight forward and easy to implement. What I really like about these additional rules is that you can take the “Multiplayer Rules” for things like turn order and close-combat and apply them to pretty much any other scenario. These two additional pages have altered the game just enough so that you can now create all the multiplayer mayhem you want in the Promethium Sprawl! For added fun, you can combine the Promethium Container with OTHER scenario objectives. If you’re looking for mayhem, why not go all out, right?!

Someone call for Mayhem?

Don’t forget – The new Shadow War: Armageddon rule book comes out May 6th, 2017! That’s plenty of time to knock out Kill Team and dive in.

Shadow War: Armageddon $40

Armageddon is wracked with war. As hordes of ferocious Ork warriors surge across the planet, they are met in combat by the combined forces of the Imperium. The bloodiest and most gruelling battles are fought within the hives: the ancient, towering cities that are the last strongholds of Humanity.

Across Hive Acheron, elite squads of soldiers are deployed where larger armies are unable to operate. These guerilla fighters creep through the twisting pipes and gantries of the hive to strike deep within enemy territory. They are assassins, and saboteurs – they are the kill teams of Armageddon, battling over precious promethium in order to win the shadow war and decide the fate of the bitter battle that has engulfed the planet.

The Shadow War: Armageddon rulebook is a 200-page softback, featuring new rules and some features previously only available online.

Looks interesting – can’t wait to give this game a try once the rules drop in May.

    • Shawn

I’m hoping to get my copy of the rules this weekend. The game store the next town over got more copies of the boxed set and are holding on to it for me. I can’t wait to try the rules out either.

          • Shawn

Sorry Xodis, if there were more, I’d grab one for you too

          • Xodis

You know what? I believe you would, and I appreciate it!

          • Shawn

You sir, are quite welcome. If I think of it, I’ll ask if they’ll be getting anymore. It’s a long shot in the dark, but you never know. I’ll keep my eyes peeled here in my area and on Ebay for something reasonable. Consider me a Miniature Broker working pro bono 😉

          • Xodis

            You are THE MAN!

          • Shawn

I humbly thank you sir, 😉

          • Xodis

Thats a decent price right now, probably will jump up another 40-60 bucks later though.

          • Shawn

Probably, but if you bid now and bid high enough, you might be able to nab it.

          • Xodis

I’ve got it on my watch list

        • Shawn

I could. I would just need you to paypal the money to me and give me your shipping info.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah. Let me see if I can pm you or something.

          • ZeeLobby

Here. Just email me at zeelobby@gmail.com. it’s my throwaway and I’ll edit this post after I get your email

          • Shawn

            email sent Zee.

  • ZeeLobby

Watched two people playing it tonight. Looked fun. It’s too bad they fell way short on boxes because they league they were going to start pretty much fell apart. They might try again once the books come in.

  • Xodis

Rules are awesome and will probably be the game I cut teeth on coming back to 40K/8e.
Really want to get started painting and crafting already.

    • TenDM

If you want to get started painting right away Shadow War is a good place to start. The roster PDF is a free download, and it only takes a box or two of models to make your Kill Team.

      • Xodis

Yeah, I need to finish clearing out the garage and Ill be out of the country all next week. Looking forward to the vacation, but its interrupting painting time lol

  • YetAnotherFacelessMan

    Good job, GW.

  • joetwocrows

I’m amused(?) by releasing a ruleset based firmly in existing 40K immediately prior to DV’ing those rules with 8th Ed. If Shadow Wars shared more of the mechanic, it would make sense to me, but it doesn’t.

Bemusement/befuddlement aside, the two games I’ve played of Shadow Wars (as Wyches) have been fun! (edit: Terrain matters: play with lots.)

    • Rainthezangoose

Shadow War is literally 3rd edition mate. It’s not 7th so the change to 8th effects it as much as if warmachine changed edition.

      • Norsed

Whilst the sentiment is correct, it is in fact 2nd edition that Necromunda (and thus SW:A) was based off. But yeah, the edition change affects it not one jot.

      • joetwocrows

Sure. And that’s what confuses me: What business reason to give us 3rd ed rules when 8th is imminent? Appeal to nostalgia? Oh, well, I’m easily confused.

        • Damistar

Mostly on account that it’s based off Necromunda and why re-invent the wheel?. The second ed rules are pretty good for small games but fall apart with dozens of models. Also this way it’s stand alone and they can balance it internally without caring about the 40K meta.

  • SB

    No rules for daemons yet?

    • euansmith

Now you mention it, that is a glaring oversight. Daemon Kill Teams versus Inquisitors would be good fun.

  • euansmith

“Draining the cache”, always a relief.

    • Matthew Pomeroy

      darn tootin’

  • bfmusashi

    I love this.

  • Kinsman

When are more boxes coming, that’s what I want. 40$ for the rules is much less appealing at that price point.
