Age of Sigmar… Skirmish?

Coming soon according to the German White Dwarf… Age of Sigmar: Skirmish.

Skirmish is all the rage these days, what with your Shadow War: Armageddons, your Warhammer Underworld: Shadespires, and your WarhammerQuests (arguably). Games Workshop can’t get enough of small-scale, fast-paced battles. And why should Armageddon get all the fun, when it’s just as easy to take Age of Sigmar, add a colon, then a second noun?

Well, lo and behold, recently spotted in the wild over on the Grand Alliance forums, a picture out of the German White Dwarf detailing exactly that. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar: Skirmish. Heaven help the person who has to title any expansion content that they release.

Of course there isn’t much context beyond the two page spread. We see some Iron Jaw Orks, some Chaos…guys with hammers? And some Sigmarines Stormcast Eternals all about to throwdown, accompanied by text that promises riches and battles.

I’m being fairly literal. A quick pass through Google tells me that the text says:

Warriors battle for treasure and glory in the kingdoms of mortals. Soon!

Now, how soon soon is is anyone’s guess. But warbands fighting for treasure? That sounds a little familiar to me. Where have I heard that before…

And it makes sense. The length and breadth of the mortal realms basically got turned into one giant Mordheim-esque destructo-fest. And there are at least a dozen magical materials for every faction (it feels like), what with all the Azyrite, Ur-Gold, Sigmarite–everybody’s got some kind of special magic rock that they use to make up all of their equipment (I’m waiting for the undead to get a fiction that says they use Deadite, myself), so there’s plenty of treasure to be had.

Will it be as simple as a reprint of Mordheim. After all, Shadow War: Armageddon is basically Necromunda revisited–or do you think it’ll be something else?

Is this even something Games Workshop should be doing? What do you think–let us know!
