Fantasy Flight Games has announced a new deluxe expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game – The Path to Carcosa!

Arkham Horror The Card Game is one of my favorite LCGs right now. I was a fan of the last deluxe expansion and have really been enjoying the way this game blends RPGs, deck building and the Lovecraft Mythos into one package. Now, The King in Yellow is coming to your tabletop with the next deluxe expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. Are you ready to face the madness?

There is a new play coming to town but when ever The King in Yellow is performed strange things are afoot…

The Path to Carcosa has just been announced by FFG. It will feature six new investigators to the game along with another 62 player cards (including a complete playset of each). One of the new characters is Lola Hayes The Actress.

Lola Hayes is probably the most generically useful Investigator to date. She is a jack-of-all trades with 3s in all her investigator stats and comes with a pair of 6s in her health and sanity pool – just on paper there isn’t anything to complain about there! What’s also pretty interesting is that she can change her role at the start of the game and she can spend a free triggered ability to switch her role. That allows her some pretty amazing flexibility through the course of an investigation.

You could opt to keep switching roles on the fly – or if you’re in a campaign for the long haul with some other investigators you could work with them to create a deck/character that would be able to fill any gaps the others might have. Because Lola Hayes can essentially become whatever you need in terms of character roles you could design a deck with her specializing in a single role, dual roles or even going for a bit of everything.

On top of adding new characters to play as the expansion also introduces a new mechanic to the game as well: “hidden” cards. These cards (like Whispers in Your Head) are not always good. Whispers is a card that doesn’t allow you to activate those trigger abilities and doesn’t go away until you spend the actions to discard it. It might cost you a turn/resources but sometimes that’s all the “deck” needs to do to cost you a pivotal clue or objective.

Along with the new “hidden” cards, this expansion also comes with new Weaknesses to mess with your investigators as well. This one could be particularly devastating to any character – for a typical character it could wipe their hand! But in a strange twist it might not be too bad for Lola. If you’re running a very “mixed” deck – you might only have to discard a couple cards depending on your hand and role. By some random chance you might even be able to completely negate the effect if your current role has nothing to do with the cards you have. Madness I tell ya. Madness.

The Path to Carcosa is a going to kick off the next batch of Mythos Packs for Arkham Horror The Card Game. You can play the two “Stand-alone” scenarios as one-shots to your current campaign or you can use them as a stepping stone to the rest of the Mythos packs. Whatever you decide, try to keep your head screwed on straight because this one looks to have you second guessing yourself! The Path to Carcosa is slated to shelves in Q3 of 2017!

A new theater production is coming to Arkham all the way from Paris. Unsurprisingly, it’s been all the rage in conversations among Arkham’s socialites. But in your efforts to learn more about the play, you’ve uncovered a darker history. Disappearances. Suicides. Delusions. Insanity. Wherever The King in Yellow is performed, madness follows close behind…

In The Path to Carcosa, the second deluxe expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game, it becomes your task to uncover the secrets of this unusual play. The expansion’s two scenarios kick off The Path to Carcosa campaign with a trip to the Ward Theatre and an invitation to the formal dinner party hosted by cast and crew. But with every answer you gain and every clue you uncover, you only find yourself falling deeper into mystery and madness.

Along with its new scenarios and encounter cards, The Path to Carcosa introduces six new investigators and sixty-two player cards (including a complete playset of each) that afford you new ways to explore and enjoy the game—even as they challenge you to overcome new weaknesses.

“Along the shore the cloud waves break,

The twin suns sink behind the lake,

The shadows lengthen

In Carcosa.”
