FW: Psyker-Bots, Roll Out!

The XV Legion is getting some new resin goodies from Forge World – check out the new Psyker-Bots on the way!

via Warhammer Community

Our Forge World preview this week is some heavy-hitting units for the Thousand Sons.

Osirion Dreadnoughts are venerable brothers entombed in Contemptor Dreadnought chassis, that not only have access to powerful psychic powers, but come with a massive Force weapon to lay low the greatest foes in the galaxy.

They also have access to psychically powered automata, provided by specified forge worlds and customised to supplement the unique way of war of the XV Legion.

Okay – I’m not going to even pretend to hate these models. I don’t play Thousand Sons but that new Osirion Dreadnought is pretty cool and these “psychically powered automata” are certainly tempting my loyalties. I could get a Cybernetica Battlegroup. Maybe augment them with these new ones… Hey Wallet, how many kidneys can you survive on?

What do you think of these modes from Forge World? And why do the bad guys get all the cool toys…

  • sniperjack

Your wallet: kidneys are totally overrated!

  • orionburn

While I hate playing against TS they sure do have some gorgeous models. These are spectacular.

    • Koonitz

As a person who is building a 30k Thousand Sons Legion army, I’m curious for more details on why you don’t like playing against them. I want to know generally what annoys people about them so I can try to avoid it.

      • madhippy

As a 30k TS player myself the moans and groans I receive from other players is psychic spam. To them I just remind them psykers aren’t free and this is an expensive army if you run them with their unique units, also the inherent risk of Perils becomes worse when your whole army must take a pinning test if you suffer a wound from Perils.

  • Walter Vining

    psychic robots, such balance.

    • Ravingbantha

Psychically powered robots, the Thousand Sons were known for using robots controlled by the Psychic power of some sorcerers.

      • Gooberbaby

A Thousand Sons by Graham McNeill describes them in great detail.

    • Talos2

It’s more the ability to channel through them rather than them being psykers themselves.

      • Walter Vining

oh that’s even more balanced. yay 30k

        • Talos2

Do you play 30k? I don’t mean 40k vs 30k either. Balance wise it’s leagues ahead of 40k

          • Walter Vining

sounds like they are warmacheing 30k. leave warmachine in warmachine

          • Talos2

You could argue they look like warjacks (in pp dreams) and sure some warjacks have that ability, but that’s where the similarity ends. They’re thousand sons castellax, making them psykers would be insane, they needed a connection somewhere. I think it’s a good compromise

          • Walter Vining

            thousand kahdor sounds about right.

          • souledgar

Wow, really? In one out of twenty legions, the one psyker leaning legion, there are psychic-controlled robots, and people go “sounds like they are warmachine-ing 30k”?

Whats next, they release a solo assassin and you go “sounds like they are infinity-ing 30k”?

          • Walter Vining

infinity stole that from 40k. stop trying to 40k infinity

          • Anggul

People don’t, no, this guy is just trolling.

          • ThunderClap

it’d be hard to fail to balance a game that only has essentially 1 faction in it where everyone has access to the same things

      • euansmith

        So, Warmachine? 😉

    • DT

The don’t have Psychic powers they’re controlled using a psycher’s thoughts. They’ll probably have to have a sorcerer attached to them or suffer penalties to actions taken

      • Walter Vining

        so warmachine. k. thousand khador

        • madhippy

Did you complain this much about 30k Tagmata or 40k Cult Mechanicus? SURPRISE there are robots in 30k and 40k and they are both controlled by synching to the minds of a controller around them, for most legions thats a cortex controller which legions like the Iron Warriors can get a ton of, for the 1 psyker legion, its… psykers, Surprise Surprise.

My Attitude aside if you have a problem with robots you are a little late this has been a thing since the 2nd book I think.

    • madhippy

Its just any psyker unit counts as having a cortex controller. The robots themselves are powerful but are very expensive and are negatively effected by units who peril around them.

      • Walter Vining

        right, so thousand khador. k.

  • zeno666

    Very Disney

    • benn grimm

      Lol.)

    • petrow84

I hope they will come with a cortex as well, it would be so rad!

  • MechBattler

Yes, the Thousand Sons dread is cool.

That psychic Castellax is just 31 flavors of awesome. Makes me wonder how they’ll work the rules.

    • Koonitz

Their rules have been available for some time in the Inferno book from Forge World. They’re a unit of 1-5 monstrous creatures. They require a unit with Psychic Mastery Level at least 1 nearby, or they can fail to do some actions. Psykers can manifest powers through them (ie: Draw range and line of sight from them). They can explode like a vehicle when destroyed and if any psyker (friend or foe) perils within range of them (regardless whether they were the target or origin in any way of the power), they may suffer a feedback that can do more than enough damage to outright kill one of the models.

      • 301stFeinminsterArmoured

        So, dodgy Arc Nodes?

  • Maciek Kiliszek

    I prefer the Contemptor

    • madhippy

Well it is a contemptor but with psychic pilot, maybe some wargear differences but nothing dramatic apart from one arm is forced to be a force sword

      • Koonitz

That’s the only wargear difference. It’s a psychic pilot with a dreadnought force sword, with a specific mention that it retains all of the normal contemptor options.

  • Talos2

Those castellax are awesome. I wish I could just field them in a normal mechanicum force

    • BrassWitch

I think most people would let you get away with using them as regular castellax.

    • benn grimm

Would they really fit though with all that magicky decoration? F it, who cares, it’s got friggin awesome written all over it… just field it as a paragon of ‘I do what I want’ or whatever it’s called…

  • Krizzab

i want a nurgle release like the thousand sons one! its unfair!

    • madhippy

Nurgle is coming to 40k. If you meant Death Guard, they got all there models out already.

  • Andersp90 .

The Osirion would look soooo cool with a force staff!

  • euansmith

I can’t help but think that GW missed out on a chance to shift some plastic by allowing the Thousand Sons to field the Necrosphinx.

    • BrassWitch

Are those things still for sale?

      • euansmith

I don’t think so. I think they returned to the sand along with the rest of the Tomb Kings. It is a shame, as I think they would really fit in with AoS.

        • Koonitz

If you have one, it would make for a fantastic addition to a narrative, and I strongly suspect would easily make for a “counts-as” for one of the Castellax-Achea with a little conversion (those robots above).

          • euansmith

Using Tomb Kings’ Skeletons are “count as 1k Sons Cultists” could be fun too 🙂

          • Koonitz

For 40k, absolutely! Not necessarily for 30k, which these models are for. It took a long time after the burning of Prospero for the Thousand Sons to truly fall to Tzeentch.

I think the sphinx’s would work wonderfully as they can be unique magical constructs, exactly like the Castellax-Achea, or more like a golem, with mechanical bits.

Alternatively, directly after the Rubric of Ahriman, which is what turned the Thousand Sons to dust, onwards, it would be very suitable.

Now I want to see a bunch of skeletons converted to carry autoguns…

        • BrassWitch

Indeed. They were new-ish models as well. Hopefully they’ll come back in one way or the other.

      • mgdavey

        $250 on eBay.

  • silashand

    Damn… I am so screwed

  • benn grimm

    Noice! 🙂

    • Walter Vining

there is no ice on prospero, you are correct.

      • benn grimm

        Lol.)

        • Walter Vining

          im here all week

          • Koonitz

I suspect Leman Russ brought some, the cold ice of his opinion towards his brother, so you may not have been 100% correct.

  • N. Thanks

“Why do the bad guys get the cool toys”?
Grav, plasma cavaliers, plasma talons, Dreadknights, Wraithknights, Wraithguard, scatbikes, Celestine….the good guys definitely have the coolest toys.
