Geekery: Rebels’ Story Ends in Season 4

There’s one season left – and plenty of questions that need answers.

The big story out this weekend was The Last Jedi trailer, but it was also announced that Rebels will be wrapping up this fall. During the panel producer Dave Filoni – who also worked on Clone Wars – told attendees: “I think I can make this story as meaningful as can be. I know what it’s like when I don’t get to end a series.” He made it very clear that this was his choice and he was not pressured by Disney to cut the series off early.

He and the cast also discussed season three and what’s in store for the final installment. You can watch the full panel here:

Lucky Celebration attendees got to see half of the premier episode of the final season of Rebels. The rest of us get a trailer that give a preview of the final chapter of the crew’s story.

Filoni also mentioned during the panel that while this is the last season of Rebels, this won’t be the last we hear of the characters. Sabine and Ahsoka are already slated to be in Forces of Destiny – we may see Hera there, as well. And, of course, all the the characters that made it into Rogue One.

How do you feel about this? Wish they were making more or do you think the story is done?

  • Lawrence Phillips

I wonder if they’ll use this to fill in the gap created by the start of the new franchise?

    • Darth Bumbles

I’m thinking something set after Return of the Jedi, ideally Rogue Squadron seeing as Rogue One proved you don’t need Jedi to be cool (although Chirrit is a Force user, if you go by the books there are Force users in Rogue Squadron).

    • Years ago when the series was still fresh, they were talking about 3-4 seasons with the ending already in their plans, and then they wanted to go post RotJ. Seems likely those plans are still on track.

  • Krizzab

“here lies kanan, he never scored”

  • dinodoc

Does the crew survive the Battle of Scarif?

    • Darth Bumbles

Ohh now THAT would be a downer.
“The Resistence wants us to head to Scariff, one last job…” as the last think Hera says before the series ends.

      • Jesse Cavazos

        That’d be pretty damn brutal.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

The Jedi have to die or be sent off somewhere for a decade. Death is easier.

      Everyone else can survive.

We know Hera survives until Scariff. Hopefully she lives past the battle.

      • Darth Bumbles

General Syndulla could be her father.

        • Red_Five_Standing_By

According to Wookieepedia, she was a General by the time of the Battle! She also survived and helped Leia on Endor.

          • Darth Bumbles

And once upon a time the clones were the villains during the Clone Wars, things change and unless they’re directly stated on screen it’s up in the air.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

Well it is canon and it is coming this Summer.

          • Anne Employee

And we know Rex survived to be on Endor too. That guy has some history.

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

Huh, I did not think they were going to end this early. I feel like it is too early.

They must have plans for a TV show set between the original and new trilogy.

    • D. B.

I sincerely hope so. “Rebels” was a really good series IMO; had a lot of potential. I’d be seriously pissed if they chose to Scarif the characters.

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

The Jedi have to die or be trucked off to an isolated part of the galaxy for a decade. They can come back post-Episode 6, although I doubt Kanan can since he has knowledge of how things, “used to be”, so would be a detriment to Luke’s new order (short lived though it was).

        • Darth Bumbles

Alternatively, as Ezra isn’t a “Jedi” because he wasn’t inducted by a Master, and Kanan was a (failed?) padawan, neither them are Jedi. Kanan’s been training with Tom Baker, maybe he’ll define himself as a “Middle Path” Force User.

          • DaveTycho

Kanan was knighted in the Lothal temple, so he could think of himself as a Jedi. But your theory on Kanan becoming a Middle Path force user seems sound. Ezra could very well follow Kanan on that path too, since Ezra has been influenced by both the dark and light sides of the Force.

  • D. B.

That looks like a pretty damn good finale. It might have been a bit short, but is sure had a damn good run.

I should definitely continue watching this series. I’ve watched up to the season 2 episode “The Siege of Lothal”, which I think has the best depiction of Darth Vader (besides the OT, of course). It’s a better Vader than the one from Rogue One, and of course infinitely superior to “Noooooooooooooooooo!” Vader.

  • SilentPony

Kanan and Hera better get together…

    • Apparently the first half of the opening episode for season 4 that they previewed at the event had Kanan trying to discuss their relationship and Hera being evasive. I’d say we’re getting some clarity there over the season.

  • pokemastercube .

herra is also revealed to be appearing in lego star wars the freemaker adventures season 2. while that show isnt cannon as that is set post ep 5 it is still nice to see her showing up there (with quarie)
