Modiphius: Fallout Warfare Announced

The classic video game has left The Vault & made its way to the tabletop!

Modiphius Entertainment... is thrilled to announce today that Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, the first tabletop miniatures game based on the Fallout universe, is currently in development and is set to release November 2017.

In Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, players will build their own crew from a wide range of factions, allies and iconic characters from the Fallout series, and play in apocalyptic games of 3 – 30 high quality 32mm scale resin miniatures through a huge variety of iconic scenery and settlement buildings, from the Red Rocket to Sanctuary Hills, Nuka- Cola vending machines and wrecked vehicles. Settlements will include buildings, defenses and resources that impact the crew’s army list and abilities in the wasteland.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare will include an entire narrative campaign arc as well as unique random missions with narrative-style objectives, and Crew Caps recovered in missions can be used to improve the crew’s perks, weapons, gear, and upgrades for the next encounter. In either Player vs. Player, or Tournament mode, players will try to survive the tabletop wasteland.

The game will also come with a customizable solo-play AI deck to control enemies that play to their strengths and replicate a faction’s tactics while attempting a narrative mission or perfecting settlement-building strategy. Players can also team up with a friend to defend a larger settlement or explore narrative missions in cooperative games against AI forces or the post-apocalyptic dangers of the wasteland.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare will be available for pre-order in the summer; organized play packs will be available at launch to retail stores, organizers and gaming groups at launch. Keep up with announcements – sign up for their mailing list here.

~What do you think? Can this game thrive in the wasteland?

  • Erick Earle

    Goodbye Games Workshop…

    • lol. Whats this like the 121st game in the last 15 years that is supposed to end Games Workshop?

      • Parthis

        “WoW Killer!”

        Every hobby has it.

      • Chaos_United_8

Easy now, what I think Erick was referring to was “Goodbye Games Workshop” for him. It won’t be goodbye for me (Blood Bowl and Armageddon keep me hooked), but I would be lying if I didn’t say that a large portion of MY funds will be heading that way. Long I have dreamt of looking for the “Milk of Human Kindness” across my tabletop.

      • Erick Earle

Exactly what Chaos said. Settle down there Auticus. Come up for air from the Kool-aid fountain every once in a while.

        • You’re right. “Goodbye Games Workshop” could only ever be taken in that way and only imbecilic cretins hooked on “the kool aid (TM)” could misinterpret that.

          • ZeeLobby

Could definitely be taken both. Honestly I read it the other way first as well, but lately there’s been a lot of defensiveness on BoLS, so I totally get that posting something vague like that is just asking for misinterpretation.

If the system is solid, I will buy it. Especially if it scales like Wild West Exodus or Warpath with Firefight and the regular game. I like playing skirmish games and enjoying the different systems out there but then opting to play with players who like larger games. Not 40k scale by any means (unless its 15mm or less), but somewhere between Warmachine and Malifaux/Infinity/ CMoN Dark Age.

I don’t see GW being killed, I think we are past that stage right now. GW is incorporated and at the very least someone else like FFG would pick up the license. The IP is here to stay. But there lionshare has definitely diminished. Between HeroClix and X-Wing, GW products still get most of their income from licensing and they are no longer the Coca Cola of the market. FFG are and GW has become Pepsi.

  • Xodis

Yeah this is going to be something I follow very intensely.

  • To be honest, while I love Fallout, I’m more of a mass army wargamer kind of guy.

And this doesn’t look like its going to be anything more than just another skirmish game.

    • If the minis look that good, I’ll get some power armor just to paint up.

    • ZeeLobby

Of which there are billions at this point, haha. I’m pretty comfortable with WMH fulfilling my fantasy skirmish needs. Runewars will probably be my new ranked combat.

just waiting to see how 40K 8th turns out before deciding whether to go that route or finally look for something else. I wish there were more alternatives in the futuristic mass combat arena. BtGoA and Warpath are just never going to pick up locally.

    • I’m in it just to get fallout decorations for my city table lol

  • piglette

I can’t take it anymore. So many minis I MUST HAVE AND PAINT

    • I think the one ‘positive’ about this is that as a skirmish game rather than a boxed game I can at least only pick up the one or two models(power armor, deathclaw) I really want to have on my shelf rather than ending up with a pile that guilts me endlessly.

      • ZeeLobby

Man, I bet the mechanics will be really cool too though.

  • ZeeLobby

Isn’t Modiphius behind on like 10 products right now? If so we should probably expect this around the time our world is literally a wasteland, lol.

    • euansmith

Isn’t most of their output in the form of books, though? There is Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel, which is a board game with minis, Achtung C’thulhu mini game and Star Trek adventures is in development. I guess that they are all in different stage of development.

      • ZeeLobby

Yeah. That’s what I thought. They mostly do like RPG books. All I know is that their kickstarters get lots of flack for their delays. Guess we’ll see how long this takes to actually release.

        • euansmith

I can’t work out why kickstarters try to give “realistic” targets, which they often fail to hit, rather than giving themselves a lot of leeway by saying, “It’ll take a year and a half to deliver” rather than 8 months.

          • ZeeLobby

I mean I think a lot of it is due to their Infinity RPG. Supposedly their back and forth with Corvus Beli has been a complete trainwreck. CB is meticulous and every change has to go through multiple approvals, etc. Some of it has also been mismanaged by them. This is only what I’ve gleaned from forums and their KS comment section.

          • euansmith

Hey, I survived DUST: Babylon (just), and I didn’t get it as bad as the Relic Knight V1.0 or Battletech backers 😀

          • ZeeLobby

Haha, yeah. There are/were some REAL strugglers out there. I always look at any Kickstarter in which I receive something in my lifetime as a plus, haha. I just don’t get all hung up on it like some people do. It could be due to my MASSIVE backlog of stuff to build, paint and play though. I guess for people who’ve only ever wanted to play Infinity in an RPG setting, and have nothing else to pass the time, the wait might be agonizing.

          • euansmith

I’ve got Dark Souls turning up soon… to go on the pile with everything else that isn’t getting played because Zombiecide: Black Plague really scratches my gaming itch.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah, my group is running through Descent2 right now and having a blast. Then it’s either on to Frostgrave, Gloomhaven or KDM. KDM should arrive in the fall, Gloomhaven in August, and Frostgrave until then, lol. So much to play, so little time.

          • Rattlernxt

I have friends on the editing team and its because Gutier at CB really holds all the keys for the Fluff-Kingdom and as things come up in the Modiphius side (plot points and whatnot) I think spark ideas for him. Their artists you know.

          • ZeeLobby

Haha, yeah. I wasn’t going to go much deeper, cause I’ve only briefly skimmed the results of that KS, but yeah, it’s definitely got to be a headache to work on. And then to manage the expectations of those who are waiting.

        • Xodis

Their focus on the RPG aspect of games is what gives me hope about this one, being a more advanced and fun version of ShadowWars. If its just another skirmish Ill probably pass.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I mean and I’ve never played their RPGs, so I have no clue if they’re good. But I’d definitely be on board if they do a rock solid skirmish with heavy progression qualities. So yeah, exactly like ShadowWars but with more, haha.

Not gonna lie, ShadowWars would have been a lot more tempting if the backstory was richer like Necromunda and gangs (beating dead horse, I know). As it is, it’s like a fun side game.

But fallout’s background is awesome, and if it’s RPG progression heavy, that’d be boss. I hope it has environment effects and creatures like Frostgrave as well.

      • Rattlernxt

Most importantly, and latest in release, is Infinity the RPG. Modiphius has released relatively on time until they had to go through the QC process with Infinity so they are about a Quarter behind going back for revisions. But, they have done a very solid job thus far.

        • euansmith

That’s good to hear. My mate backed the Siege of the Citadel, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for that.

          • Matthew Pomeroy

            still play the original 😀

    • georgelabour

The infinity RPG seems to be approaching the end of the tunnel as they’ve released a pre-prpduction PDF for backers to help find typos and run down any other errors before it goes to print.

That’s the only one I care about that they’ve been behind on.

      • ZeeLobby

Good to know! There were just a whole lot of tears everywhere.

    • I’m actually ok with that only because I’m poor and want to do this game right when it comes out

      • ZeeLobby

I mean im going to buy it asap regardless.

  • euansmith

Those are some nice looking minis. I hope that they gameplay is novel. Really it should use a % based “to hit” system with the ability to target various body parts.

  • Rattlernxt

You had me at Fallout…and Solo Play.

  • Hawt Dawg

    Mind blown!

    Need this!

    • ZeeLobby

      I know, now it’s all i want… :/

      • Matthew Pomeroy

yep, so much for SWA, gonna wait for this!

        • ZeeLobby

I’ll still get SWA, but i’m going to use the terrain for this!

  • Tristan Smith

    Squee.

  • georgelabour

Fingers crossed for a deatchclaw pack, and feral ghouls add on for later.

  • Testar

Now, only the Bioshock miniature game and my life will be fulfilled

  • I’m insanely excited and this is coming out at the perfect time, cause 8th ed sounds like a dumpster fire. Exciting!
