Privateer: New Warmahordes Stats Cards for April

Last December Privateer announced its Community Integrated Development initiative that brings players into the creation process. The first CID cycle ended last week – and finalized model testing on the newest Hordes faction, the Grymkin. Those will show up on store shelves and the Privateer web store in July. In the mean time there are some other big updates – Will Shick explains:

[Last week marked] the release of the first models that do not contain physical stat cards. As you may remember, the removal of physical stat cards from our models was a critical decision required to inaugurate Community Integrated Development because it freed us from the immutable print timelines. Thus, we are able to keep the space between CID cycles and the release of the new models from those cycles as close as possible. Having Grymkin release just three short months post-CID would have been impossible had we needed to include physical stat cards with them.

From today forward, new releases and restock models will not be packed with stat cards. Instead, you can find the most up-to-date stat cards for these models at or get them through the War Room 2 app.

Each month, we will be adding cards for new releases to download from, and by July, we will have our entire card catalog available for players to reference and download for their own use.

But wait, there’s more!

Yes, most Insiders might be done after such a declaration, but not this one. I’ve got control of this keyboard and no character limit. So, strap in because there are two more important things I want to throw your way today!

First, you might notice, having already gone and downloaded this month’s new stat cards, that stat cards for all the dragoon solos are also listed on Why, you may ask? Well, in working on creating the digital card library, we realized we needed to add base sizes to the stat cards, since this info wouldn’t be appearing in books going forward. Thus, you’ll also notice that every stat line has a new icon attached to it to denote the model’s base size.


Second, while this worked great for presenting the information quickly and easily, it posed a bit of a problem with dragoons since the current split stats didn’t really jibe with the base-size icons. As such, we’ve now split dragoons into two separate stat cards, one mounted and one dismounted. Not only did this solve the base-size weirdness, it also makes referencing the model’s stats much quicker and cleaner since there’s no need for a block of text saying what the model loses when dismounted. Each version is simply self-contained, based on its current status.

However, as these two items represent slight changes to core rules from Prime and Primal, both of those books will be updated in June alongside the next errata following the Battle Engine and Bane Theme Force CID cycle.

    Hey PP, it may help to have the new Ret Warjack cards have a date on them that says something other than 2016 V.1 !

      Those aren’t new Warjacks, and they haven’t had an errata since the start of MK3, so the most up to date version is 2016 V.1

        If they were updated later in 2016 they might say 2016 V.2 or if this year 2017 V.1. They have a list of what the most up to date version of each card is, but everyone just uses the War Room app anyway.

          Not everyone.. most of my Gaming group hates the war room app.. Give me actual cards! Personally I like physical cards that way I can always play with older versions of the game.. but to each his own!

            Fair enough. It’s very frustrating how when PP makes changes, they don’t actually tell us what the old numbers or wording of the rules was.

            I always use cards, cant stand apps and other tech at the table.

    How soon before cards go away all together? The amount of extension cords running around gaming tables keeping everyone’s ipads and phone running will be astounding. Also, make the room warmer because we all like warm, sweaty gamers! hehehe!

    I love the War Room app, it had a rough start years ago, but man it is now a great app. I don’t know too many people in my area who use cards.

    I really don’t know what the era of technology people are referring to when they talk about “extension cords” running from outlets to the phone. I have a non-iPhone that is a couple of years old and my battery can run War Room all day, but if it really was a problem I could always carry another battery? and charge everything the night before?

    For the tournament scene most people take three lists and run them over the course of the year. I am not a competitive player myself, but in Old West Texas Town of El Paso, we do have some really talented players who run the circuit. More than you would expect for a 400+ year old border town. And I do have the honor of getting my butt kicked by them. One thing I can say, after someone has been tweaking three lists for over a year, they don’t really look at their cards…they already know what all thier units do, hell they already know YOUR units do.

    This is one benefit to standardization vs customization in wargaming. The difference may be alien to players who either live in Britian or have only experienced wargaming by playing games out of Nottingham so let me give some background.

    Alot of Nottingham games have customization, a space marine unit can be fairly diverse, based on the wargear you take. This is great for creating a highly personalized army, not so great for tournaments, balance, rule consistancy. Then again the games come from Britian, and they have a very wargamer club mentality vs. the tournament mentality you see in America. Us, Americans always have a way of taking the dumbest thing and making it a competition, its our strength in our curse.

    U.S. games from WMH, Malifaux, or FFG are about standardization. You have the base and it is modified by an attachement or upgrade, but on the whole you can look at a unit and know what it does, even if its your opponent’s playing piece. This is not great for showcasing your lore and paint job and how you glued a frag grenade to so and so space marine to your gaming club, but does create a solid tournament game.

    This is why I sorta of laugh when people take games out of Nottingham and then have to comp it to make it tournament worthy and are even disappointed when one list dominates all the others. Games out of Nottingham are not built to be tournament games. They are just not, they amount of variability from die rolling for things such as charges, and customization do not lend themselves to it. Some rules, like piling in seem arbitrary now a days, or a heritage holdover from WWI or prior era genre of wargames.

    It is a huge cultural difference.

    That said, Nottingham does produce some of the best casual, gamer club games in the world. They truly produce a hobbyist game, and in this regard the old CEO of GW was right. Miniature gamers who love Nottingham games love models not rules. It not really the quality of the models, Dark Age, Malifaux, and Infinity are producing stuff far superior in quality and style and PP is on par, but it is the customization of models that fans of Nottingham games love.

    That said I’m glad that PP is moving to posting printable cards and selling decks each year for those of us that are into something analog. Especially with CID out and the living FAQ style of updating rules twice a year, printable cards are necessary. This something that CMoN’s Dark Age has already been doing for over year, and it is a very good thing if a company want to keep an enjoyable and legitimate tournament style game.
