Wings of Glory moves into a new era with World War II – check out the Battle of Britain starter set!

Ares Games helped to pioneer the tabletop “air-combat” games with Wings of Glory. The WWI era of the game is a pretty big hit and now they are shifting gears to WWII with the new Battle of Britain Starter:

The starter itself has everything you need to get up and flying on the tabletop. Aside from fantastic 1/200th scale miniatures, you’ll get all the decks, tokens, “airplane consoles” and more! Each plane is finely detailed, pre-assembled and pre-painted. Because this is the Battle of Britain, the two forces in the box are represented by two RAF Spitfires and two Luftwaffe Messerschmitt fighters. These two iconic planes ran missions for both sides and the starter set has scenarios engage in.

The game itself plays a lot like it’s WWI Counter-part. The turns consist of 3 parts:planning, movement, and firing. During the planning phase players secretly chose a maneuver and place it in the second space of the console. The movement phase is where the player resolves their maneuver. The next step is the Firing phase. If a plane is in range and has a firing solution then the target plane’s own must take a number of damage counters indicated by the attacking plane’s firepower. These counters are randomized so you don’t know how much damage you’re taking until it’s been dealt. A plane is destroyed when the total damage sustained is equal or greater than the resistance of the plane.

Wings of Glory really rewards planning ahead and maneuvering. The planes travel the distance indicated by the cards from the maneuver deck – in a way this means that all planes are traveling at the same relative speed. The difference is the types of maneuvers they have access too. However, because you basically have to plan and remember at least two turns ahead, things get pretty interesting!

If you a fan of these air-combat tabletop games you really should give Wings of Glory a try! The Battle of Britain is a great launching point and it’s out now in stores and online.

Wings of Glory: Battle of Britain Starter Set

In the summer and fall of 1940, after the fall of France, the German Luftwaffe faced the Royal Air Force in the 1st major military campaign fought entirely in the air — the Battle of Britain. This was the prelude to the invasion Hitler planned for the British Islands — Operation Sealion. An ultimate German victory was at hand, and British pilots bravely flew into battle, fully aware of what a defeat would bring to their country and the entire free world.

Now, with this WW2 Wings of Glory Battle of Britain Starter Set you can bring to life the epic aerial duels between the Axis and Allied aces on your tabletop. Defend Britain as an Allied pilot, controlling one of the most iconic WW2 airplanes, the Spitfire; or fly dangerous missions as a German pilot in a powerful Messerschmitt Bf.109 fighter.

Wings of Glory is fast–playing and easy to learn. This WW2 Wings of Glory Battle of Britain Starter Set is a complete game that includes everything you need to play the WW2 version of the system.
