40K: 7th Products – Going, Going…

A whole slew of products are going the way of the dodo, as retailers prepare for the imminent releases of 8th Edition. Take a look.

Multiple retailers report the following products are going, going, gone…

40K Core Products

Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook

Universal Templates

Dark Vengeance

Codex: Space Marines

Codex: Skitarii

Codex: Astra Militarum

Codex: Tau

Codex: Blood Angels

Codex: Dark Angels

Codex: Space Wolves

Codex: Chaos Space Marines

Codex: Craftworld Eldar

Codex: Imperial Knights

Codex: Necrons

Codex: Orks

Codex: Tyranids

Before you start – yes that is clearly not the full range of 7th edition codices. What that list actually is – is the list of obsolete mandatory core 40K products, that every GW independent stockist is required to stock.  This means that GW is telling retailers to pack those puppies in and let them know so they can get refunds for the obsolete products they were required to purchase.

What is really means is the while there is no official release date yet – 8th Edition is VERY VERY CLOSE. This type of refunding from retailers is one of the very last things done before the rollout of new editions.

~ So hold tight folks – we’ve almost made it to the promised land.

  • DVeight

Release date is 17th June. Lock that in as fact.

    • I was hoping sooner since that is Heroes Convention weekend and I’ll be too busy to even go to a store let alone purchase.

    • Vachones

I know you are probably right, but man I wish it was sooner.

    • Harry_Jamieson

2 days ago I would have been 100% with you.

Since then, I’ve heard too many rumours that pre-orders are up VERY soon and it’ll be released 3rd June.

      • Slagalica Marx Bobica

Here, here. TBH, I saw a rumor saying that GW staff can’t take holidays between June 3rd and 10th. The only logical conclusion (supposing rumor is true) is that they will be very, very busy and will need all the hands on board (ie, people will be storming the shops).

        • DVeight

My source is not “rumour”. 😉

      • DVeight

Well time will tell won’t it. My info is from a source higher up in GW than your local store manager and he has never missed a beat with the info he has given out. I rarely post stuff up anyway because haven’t been into 40k for a while but all the changes are bringing me back. To test it out at least. 🙂

  • Hendrik Booraem VI

    I vote May 27th

    • Slagalica Marx Bobica

Preorders and then 3rd June full release. It could work, it fits in.

  • DVeight

I vote nothing because I know its 17th June for a fact.

    • Sleeplessknight

Considering the release day of the June issue of White Dwarf has been pushed back to June 16th, I’d say that’s a pretty good bet.

    • Shawn Pero

  • hokiecow

    June 3rd

    • Walter Vining

      preorder date

  • Crevab

How many codices less than a year old are there? 5?

    • Marco Marantz

Yeah and what about all those not mentioned which are also <1 year. Granted there was only a fraction of each book with new rules.

      • orionburn

I’ve been lucky that I haven’t bought many books in this past year. The one that hurts me the most is that I finally picked up an Imperial Armour book from FW. While the book is absolutely amazing and will still enjoy looking through it it sucks that it’ll be getting an update at some point in the near future. Access to PDFs will be nice but they better be free.

        • eMtoN

FW was always slow to update their IA books. The writing is fantastic though. Im not entirely sure what the problem has been but imho they should stick to story and model design. Then let GW proper handle rules and model production.

  • Snord

I’m open-minded about the next edition. The current one is clearly collapsing under its own weight. But some time ago I stopped buying codexes, on the basis that the game can’t really withstand such a high rate of codex churn.

I wonder how many new kits are lined up for the next edition. It won’t be as major an overhaul as AoS, but I’m sure this will be a pretext for a lot of stuff being replaced.

    • euansmith

I just picked up a second box of Betrayal @ Calth as that looks to be going from the GW store. It looks like you can only get it as part of a double purchase with Prospero Burns. £60 for so many minimarines is just too good a deal to pass up.

      • Shawn

Ughh. Well if you have a handful of MkIII marines you don’t want send them my way, won’t you? My Iron hands need a proper honor guard.

        • euansmith

Sorry, mate, I got a box of Calth off a third party seller. Actually, checking the GW wedsite, Calth appears to be back up again, so maybe I was panicking needlessly 😀

          • Shawn

No worries. The MkIII Iron Armor is actually in the Burning of Prospero, and so when you said that and BaC could only be bought together, I thought you bought BoP as well.

    • Me

Hopefully it will be everything not already in plastic.

  • Luca Lacchini

On the fence if it’s time to go hunting for chaos cultists (the ones included in Dark Vengeance, IIRC the heavy weapons aren’t available anywhere else).

    • orionburn

Same here with Deathwing termies. I’ve stocked up on the tactical marines from the set over the past two years but this will be the last chance to pick up some DW on the cheap from Ebay.

      • Muninwing

i have ten Cataphractii that i want to convert to DW Knights, so i’ll only need their weapons. then again, i have five Knights i want to convert to my Command Squad, so i’ll need to get some new kit there. and my current Command Squad (notably the champion and banner) need to be redone as a regular squad.

that’ll put me to a current total (who knows in 8th) of over 3500 points. so maybe i can get two more DV squads and round it up to an even 4k.

  • Son_of_Corax_XIX

Thats been the case for the last 2 weeks. Old news

  • Trey

No Loss to 6th was bad and 7th worse (ok I gave up during 6th)

  • MechBattler

The new edition will be released on…

A cookie to anyone who gets the reference.

  • Adam Wright

    It’ll be released on 42.
