Get the game out of your head, and onto the table with this fantastic board game design kit from Gameplayright and Atlas Games.

There is nothing quite as comforting as the idea of possibility, and nothing quite as terrifying as trying to take something from perfect, ideal, potential and making it into something actual where it exists outside of your own mind and other people can see it. The White Box aims to help you cross that terrifying threshold and take your game idea from useless potential and into something that you can actually get out there and play.

But you won’t be on your own if you back this project–you’ll have the ideas, lessons, and concepts that a number of great designers have assembled for you. You’ll have advice from luminaries like Jeremy Holcomb (The Duke, Timestreams) and Jeff Tidball (Doctor Who Time Clash, Horus Heresy), who have collected essays on game design, presentation, and more in the White Box.

They’re at 60k+ at the time of this writing, well past their funding goal, and the stretch goals they’ve unlocked look extremely promising (you’ll get a few games to play while designing your own). So take advantage of this fantastic opportunity and start on that project you’ve always dreamed of.

At Gameplaywright and Atlas Games, we think making games is awesome. We believe it’s one of the most challenging, fun, rewarding things you can do. If you’ve ever thought about making a game of your own, we want to help.

We made The White Box for you.

The White Box is a learning, planning, and prototyping tool for tabletop game designers.

It contains a book of 18 essays on game design and production, covering subjects like where to find a great concept, how to use randomness, what to ask playtesters, and whether it’s wise to self-publish.

It includes an abundance of components to get you started right away, from cubes and meeples to dice, discs, and chits.

If you believe creating games is awesome, The White Box is for you.
