After years of rumors and false starts the Henson classic is getting a prequel series on Netflix.

The story that came before Jen’s journey will be told in a series on Netflix…

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance takes place years before the first film. Maybe we’ll get to learn more about what led to the crystal to fracture, and more about the Skeksis and Mystics.

The 10 episode series will be sticking to its roots with state-of-the-art puppets from Jim Hensons’ Creature Shop that will be designed by Brian Froud – who did a a lot of the concept work on the original film. There will be some CG, but I’m hoping not a lot.

The iffy part of the whole deal is executive producer pick Louis Leterrier because he doesn’t have the best resume. Will see if he can shake off his worst projects and make this one great. Lisa Henson, current CEO of the Jim Henson Company and Jim’s daughter, had a lot of nice things to say about him…

“Louis Leterrier is passionate about the world of The Dark Crystal and has an incredible creative vision for the series. He brings this passion to every facet of the production as he leads the talented team of artists and writers that are bringing this entire universe to life. Netflix has a deep respect for my father’s original work and the many people it inspired. They are the perfect partners to create this next epic chapter in The Dark Crystal story for new fans and the loyal fans who have waited so long for more adventures from this world.”

A new series has been an on again, off again project for years. While I’m glad to see it finally taking off, I’m going to be cautious till we get some more information and new peeks at what the production looks like.

How about you – excited or cautious?
