Privateer Press is here to help bring out the dirt and grit of your models with these painting tutorials.

That’s right, it’s time to bring out that old apocalyptic feeling with a couple of painting tutorials from Privateer Press. We’ve got Hair and Bone and Rust and Grime. Two different sets of things that should probably never go together–but all that’s missing is a few red scarves/bandanas and some goggles and you’ve got the painting techniques you’ll need to turn a Road Worrier to a Road Warrior.

First up, we have Hair and Bone, because why should your undead legions not have hair that looks as fabulous as they feel on the inside. Assuming that any of the undead are capable of feeling anything, anyway. They walk you through some solid techniques though–there’s a great way to make the bones look “aged” or “bleached” while still keeping texture. They look phenomenal, as you can see.

Join Privateer Press Studio Painting & Hobby Manager Dallas Kemp as he goes over all the supplies and techniques you need to take your new WARMACHINE or HORDES models from packaged to painted!

Speaking of that textured, lived-in kind of feeling. Check out this tutorial on Rust and Grime. Here let me give you two quick peeks:

Here it is at just the beginning. It looks a little dirty, for sure, but check out how it changes.

You can practically feel how real this shield/slab of metal is. It’s not just lived in, it’s worn–but has weathered it so well you know it’ll keep you safe when those crazy Cygnarans are hurling spears and magic bullets at you.

So there you have it. A few ways to bring out the ash and dust and bone and rust from your models. Even just a little detail can go a long way (as we’ve seen above). Enjoy!

And happy painting!
