Rambo the Board Game

You read that right friends. There’s a Rambo game coming to a tabletop near you.

Everything Epic has drawn First Blood when it comes to licenses, because they’ve just announced that they are developing a board game based on the adventures of Sly Marbo. Er. John Rambo. No word on whether or not you’ll be able to sew your own wounds, or if there will be an expansion that lets you recreate the adventures of Hot Shots: Part Deux, but I’m holding out hope.

Joking aside, the game sounds amazing. It’s a cooperative tactics game that’s supposed to recreate the feel of being an awesome commando (presumably an 80’s movie commando), with missions that build on one another, providing you with various opportunities to upgrade your commandos. It actually sounds a little like a roguelike, which is very exciting to me. I’d love to see how it plays out.

His mission: win where no one else can…
His orders: complete his mission any way he can…

Rambo… what most people call hell… he calls home. No man, no law, no war can stop him! Sylvester Stallone is back as Rambo, and this time he’s got his team with him in… Rambo: The Board Game!

“Rambo: The Board Game” is currently in development and is the passion project of Chris Batarlis and Jim Samartino of Everything Epic. The game originated from the designers’ love of the film, and the passion for making a game that would capture the magic and fun of the action adventure favorite. It’s a thematic, cooperative, tactical, miniatures, scenario-based campaign game that allows 1-4 players to experience the events they remember from the film as well as embark on new, never before seen missions.

The game provides sealed “legacy-like” mission envelopes which gradually expand the game as each mission completes. Each mission tells a story and takes the players on a unique adventure to various locations to save POW’s, escape a military prison, raid a jungle encampment, defend a secret air base, or survive a treacherous jungle and much more! Missions will unlock new equipment and tactics to help players customize their experience and allow for high replayability and great tactical strategy. Taking actions and engaging in combat is done without random dice, but with a card-based system where the player is in control, and where every choice can be life or death!

Players will choose from an iconic variety of special forces characters each with highly detailed miniatures, including, of course, John Rambo, Col. Trautman, other members of Baker Team, and other companions that Rambo teamed up with over the years. Each hero will have unique abilities and customization options that make them valuable during missions. You control how to approach the mission: Do you go in guns blazing? Or do you take a more stealthy approach? Perhaps you set a trap for the enemy? It’s up to you to decide and lead Rambo and his team to victory!

Pop quiz. There are two pictures from Hot Shots: Part Deux in this post, can you find them?

To survive a war, you gotta become war

Guess it won’t be based on First Blood then. Otherwise you’d have to take a sanity check every round. “On double 1s, your badass 80s commando breaks down from the horrors of war he witnessed/had to commit and the apathetic disdain received from the country he swore to defend that turned him into a weapon.”

They should have John Matrix as a variant character 🙂
