40K RUMORS: Q3-4 Faction Schedule

There’s a new set of rumors doing the rounds regarding the next eight 40K factions being released.

We’re all excited by the release of 40K 8th Edition. but you can never satisfy gamers.  No matter how much cool stuff hits the tabletop we always want more.

Here’s the latest set of rumors doing the rounds, but be warned – these are salty indeed.

These rumors were reported on variety of 40K forums, and websites along with 4chan…

40K Release Schedule

September

Sisters of Battle

Chaos Marines

October

Thousand Sons

Thoughts…

Space Marines and Death Guard are already getting new kits announced by GW, and both feature in the three 8th boxed sets. So both of them getting a codex in July is not a stretch.

There has been chatter of over a dozen 8th codexes being ready to roll and coming fast and furious on the heels of the initial 8th Edition rollout. This set of codexes has contradictory chatter on exactly how fast GW plans on releasing them. It’s possible this list is describing the first months of such a “fast rollout” schedule for 40K.  So that fits in with established rumor chatter.

The list is certainly something 2nd or 3rd hand. This isn’t directly from GW, as it uses outdated terms such as Sisters of Battle and Chaos Marines which don’t match the new proper names of those factions.

It’s going to be a fun summer of playing 40k and we may just have to wait and see how this pans out.  It won’t be long.

~ What do you think? As always – caveat emptor.

  • blackbloodshaman

Sisters are the Bretonnians of 40k their release is always just around the corner

    • Brian Griffith

Sisters also require a metric assload of miniatures in order to be a full-fledged army again.

They could eat up a whole month’s release slots and ask for seconds.

      • rtheom

True, so we’re not likely to see a full revamp. But they could easily produce one double kit that is basic troops and the elites with heavy bolters and flamers and then just bill them as the Troops for the Inquisition Forces. Likely we’ll see at least that and a kit of the Jump sisters considering they already have the CAD files they can reposition from making Celestine and her assistants.

        • Kefka

A good argument in favor of a SoB release. They could of course keep the box like a tactical squad, limited weapon options in the box, more in the rules for later.

          • orionburn

What they did with Skitarii worked well enough. Two main troop boxes that could be built to make four different units. To me GW lost a lot of excuses as to why they couldn’t update SoB when Deathwatch guys came out with their own boxes.

      • lunahula .

I would be phenomenally happy with just a genestealer cult level reboot to sororitas. One vehicle kit (with possible multiple outcomes) one core troop kit, 2 different specialised kits and a few special character plastics.

If only to kind of test the waters and see if sisters of battle would sell enough to be worthwhile. Heck at this point just getting the core basic units as plastic would be something.

        • Mathew G. Smith

The single vehicle kit makes sense, all their vehicles are Rhino variants anyway.

          • Brian Griffith

Also their unique tanks in the past have basically just built on the next-lighter tank in layers. Sororitas Rhino + upgrade sprue = Immolator + metal bits = Exorcist.

      • Munn

You could do the whole army with 4 dual kits a clampack and a plastic exorcist upgrade sprue and have room leftover for new options.(technically 1 ‘dual’ kit would have…4+ options but you get the idea)

        • Maitre Lord Ironfist

You mean like Grey Knights 1 Box for Strike, Purgator, Interceptor and Flamyflamy Squat.

yeah, but i hope that there will be more then 5 SoB in 1 Box. If there are only 5 in it its stil la pain too build an army

      • Carey_Mahoney

Same for Primaris Marines, Cult CSMs, Genestealer Cults, etc. It has happened in the past, so it can just as likely happen to SoB as well.

      • euansmith

Would they need more than a box with options to make “tactical” or “support” squads and a second box to make “assault” squads? A few clampack characters could round it out, and an upgrade sprue for the rhino kit.

      • Spacefrisian

Or maybe the models were actually done in that bin vid.

And sisters of silence are folded in that dex.

      • TDog

Okay… “metric assload.” You win the Internet for today! 😀

    • Sparowl

      The Orks feel your pain.

      • blackbloodshaman

No orks get releases and models aplenty, they are just under powered

        • Sparowl

I don’t know about “aplenty”, as there’s still models that haven’t been updated in decades.

The last Ork release was 2014, which I know is more recently then a SoB release, but I was trying to empathize.

On the other hand, the Imperium gets releases everyday, so maybe you can be happy with that?

          • blackbloodshaman

I have orks that I’ll get around to painting someday lol, but no army gets models like good guy marines. Orks do ok all things considered, Brett’s on the other hand I waited for from like 2000 to 2016 of all sizzle and no steak

  • Rayna M. McCowan

GW had stated and other sources backed up that through the end of the year (hell my own LGS told me this as well) that GW is focusing on Chaos vs Imperium until the end of the year at least. So, I believe Primarus-Death Guard being up next, it makes the most sense. Emperor’s Children-Imperial Guard or Slaanesh-Sisters of Battle after that I could see, but, yeah I would say more likely to go Emperor’s Children-Imperial Guard, then Adeptus Mechanicus (both parts) and Iron Warriors. I want my Sisters of Battle, but, I don’t see them coming, hell, I would be surprised if Imperial Guard get more than a codex, a new HQ character blister clam pack, and a new fast attack option (probably plastic rough riders).

    • Andrew

Please oh please be Emperor’s Children

    • 301stFeinminsterArmoured

I can dig plastic Rough Riders.

    • NNextremNN

SoB are still Imperium. The only exception in that list are the Aeldari and they partly side with the imperium against chaos if necessary.

      • NovaeVox

Basically, all the Gathering Storm factions are there, aside from specific SM chapters, so I wouldn’t put them out of the realm of possibility.

    • Fergie0044

I doubt we’ll be seeing another chaos legion book until at least Q3-4 2018. A new deamon primarch is a big event and GW can easily space these out to one a year. (This is assuming Morty is just around the corner)
Plus their focus should really be on re-doing all the existing factions in 8th before building up new ones.

    • Diagoras

      I like your plan.

I don’t believe it, mind you, because “Iron Warriors” isn’t lumped in with “Generic Chaos Marines,” but I would greatly enjoy that.

      • Rayna M. McCowan

I can see them doing like an updated Iron Warriors HQ Character model, given what we saw in the indexes it is very likely that is the route they are going. It would be pretty simple as it is just give a thematically appropriate aura to the HQ and a named character and give a clamshell miniature and that is all GW has to do to give Iron Warriors their own stuff.

  • Mr.Gold

I would bet AdMech instead of Sisters in September…

    • rtheom

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Administratum which includes Ad Mech, Inquisition and Sisters.

    • Marcus Langdale

Please GW! More Admech! I play Ryza, so i’m begging for a character or something

    • Keith Wilson

Admech is also getting featured in the upcoming FW book with Tau and Red Scorps … that may delay seeing an Admech book for a while

  • Brian Griffith

Two factions a month seems… ambitious.

    • NNextremNN

Well they have lot’s of factions and have to go though each at least once. It will be interesting to see what and how much each faction gets. Deathguard and Primaris are completely new (ok Deathguard not so much but those were very old). Maybe the other get some updates but not complete new lines.

      • Maitre Lord Ironfist

and they have to be quick.

Otherwise some armies will be left in the Cold with nothing new for at least a year.

        • NNextremNN

Which they wouldn’t have to rush if the indices would have all codices equivalent rules instead of just half but they want MONEYYYY $.$

    • zeno666

Don’t worry, there won’t be any playtesting. And there are several 15 year olds drinking them energydrinks that are taking care of the fluff.
So sure it can be done

      • Diagoras

… I’m surprisingly alright with that.

Better them than Matt Ward, anyway.

        • Mira Bella

Ward is back on Board. Didn’t you know that?
I think the current fluff feels quite “wardy” if you ask me.

  • 3AcresAndATau

I can already feel my wallet’s pain :/

Hoping for a box of Gravis armored marines in the July wave, and that Primaris vehicles aren’t too uberheug (and therefore putting Rhino equivalents and Land Raider prices, etc). While we’re at it, if the new Guard are Armageddon Steel Legion, that would be great to fluff up my lil ok Shadow War Armageddon forces.

    • Brian Griffith

I could see them doing a Greatcoat Guard kit with a few alternate parts to make Steel Legion, Valhallans, etc.

      • rtheom

Nah, they’ll relegate the special guard forces to Forge World.

  • Logan Miller

“Sisters Of Battle are around the corner” I’ve heard this song so often I can play all the instruments from memory

  • Luca Lacchini

August is going to be interesting (I have armies both of Dark Eldars and Imperial Guard).
I’d like to see something new instead of something revamped, but oh well.

Plastic Sisters in September? I’ll believe it only when I have the kits in my hands. Sorry, but this one needs a toxic-level quantity of salt.

    • Cheyennevan

Why not Sisters in Sep/Oct for their 20-year model anniversary.

      • Luca Lacchini

Wishful thinking. The model anniversary I think was the John Blanche canoness sculpt a few months ago.
I sound harsh, but again, will believe it only with the kits in my hands.

  • AX_472

don’t know if anyone has noticed but on the UK GW site wraithlords are “no longer available” fingers crossed the rumour is right and theres a new wraithlord coming in august. im hoping for a wraithseer combo kit so you can field a complete spirithost detachment as thats a faction keyword now. 🙂

    • Munn

Still for sale in the US.

      • AX_472

yes but as their main office/factory/design studio is in the UK this would (theoretically) only happen if they were replacing it.

        • Horus84cmd

or just restocking it. Kits go out of stock all the time. It probably means it is getting a new packaging design and/or the instruction booklet updated to include the datasheet (as GW have said all kits will get overtime).

          • AX_472

its not just out of stock though. when out of stock it says “temporarily unavailable” or “out of stock online” this says “no longer available” which is usually reserved for kits or books that are becoming obsolete.

          • Horus84cmd

or being completely repackaged. Happens all the time. The replacement box will have a new SKU code and thus is a new item for the Website store systems to handle.

          • AX_472

yeah very true. still as they are’t repackaging everything at once this being repackaged now might add weight to the august aeldari release window.

  • Lowkey2342

I hope that when they say CSM they are referring to the ones that aren’t the Big 5. Getting Traitor Legions and choosing Alpha Legion to get back into the hobby after over a decade only to enjoy that sweet infiltrate for only a few months was heartbreaking.

    • NNextremNN

Go tell this to guard player who don’t want to play Cadia forces.

    • Xodis

If this was true (which it isn’t apparently) it would seem that Nurgle/Deathguard and Tzeentch/1000sons get their own codex meaning Khorne/Bezerkers and Slaanesh/EmperorsChildren will probably get their own.
So hopefully that means CSM = The other Legions and warbands that are not fully devoted to 1 god.

  • kaptinscuzgob

eldar and imperial guard in the same month? haha, no

  • orionburn

Given that we’re still waiting on the rumored update to the Nid codex and new monstrous creature from Q1 2016 I have zero faith in any of this outside of the obvious Primaris & DG stuff coming out since those have already been teased.

  • Kritarion

If they actually do Plasitic sisters when I just caved in and settled for Tau instead as my first Army, I will get REALLY REALLY ANGRY.

    And then buy Sisters.

  • Maitre Lord Ironfist

Come on, this time be real SoB. i started last Year when i heard the rumors, nothing happened. Then new came, nothing happened. Now these. everything good is 3, right? RIGHT?

  • generic eric

Does “fast rollout” mean “full of typos”???

  • Branahar

    No love for Slaanesh 😥

    • Xodis

Im still holding out hope that Slaanesh will be a big, dual (Aos and 40K) styled campaign reveal with all new sculpts and a slightly altered theme to be “kid appropriate”.

I could do without the kid appropriate thing, but whatever gets Slaanesh back on the table.

  • Malisteen

    sounds fake but ok

  • Daniel

I already vomit with 40k. Want aos rumours.

  • piglette

You now realize orks still exist.

  • Vladamyr

The lack of any Space Marine chapters is suspicious or their plan is to get everyone to buy the new Primaris dudes and then be like oh well you already have them all so now they are just normal marines.

  • I get excited every time someone mentions a possible plastic set of Sisters, but my hopes have been dashed for too many years to believe it until I see it.
    .
The St Celestine figures are amazing and make me really want a full set. I had half a mind to make my own squad using multiple sets, but that’s far too pricey. 😛

  • Here’s hoping they do the daemon book justice

  • Mitchell

Primaris grey knights should become a thing
