The Genesys experience begins with the Genesys Core Rulebook, which features an explanation of the narrative dice system and core mechanics of the game, an overview of five different settings in which to place campaigns, and advice for Game Masters to craft a myriad of adventures with unparalleled freedom.

If you’re a fan of FFG’s Star Wars Role-Playing Game system then this one should look very familiar. The mechanics do mirror that same system but the symbols have changed but the basic concepts are sounding virtually identical. But do note the lack of the white “Force” die. (A later expansion perhaps?)

At it’s core The Narrative Dice System helps players and GM’s quickly build a dice pool when characters approach a challenge. The results of the rolls help to create unique narrative interactions. A success can still grant you some other threat later and a failure could still create an advantageous situation. While most systems rely on a binary “Pass or Fail” style, the Narrative Dice System helps open up all those shades of grey in-between flat out successes and abject failure.

Another unique facet of the Narrative Dice System that because of the way the dice are used in Genesys you can apply those same story-driving results to ANY type of adventure you can dream up. The core rulebook comes with all the information on how the system works mechanically and five different settings you could run your game in – however, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to fly through space and fight off aliens or if you want to battle hordes of undead in mystical lands – this game system can support it! All you need to do is pick a setting and let your imagination run wild!

“The Genesys system isn’t limited to the settings found in the core rulebook, either. Keep your eyes out for future supplemental material that will provide in-depth guides to additional settings!”

Could this be the setting that FFG will use you create the basis for an Android: Netrunner RPG? What about a Legend of the Five Rings RPG? And I can’t discount the awesomeness that would be an Arkham Horror Files RPG! Fantasy Flight Games has been constructing an amazing catalog of IP they own that could very easily be tapped to create amazing detailed RPG settings. With the Genesys system, you’ll already be able to do that on your terms when it hit shelves in Q4 of 2017!
