GW: 2017 Golden Demon Model Showcase

It’s a visual feast from Warhammer Fest 2017 – The Golden Demon Website has been updated!

The Golden Demon is a competition for the hobby side of things and every year the entrants wow the world with their work. Games Workshop has created a website where you can see all the awesome models that won from this past year at Warhammer Fest. I hesitate to even call them “models” because they are all individual works of art. If you get a chance go check out their full gallary – they have pictures from the last 4 years. It’s inspiring and humbling to see very best side of the hobby.

“I didn’t mean to lose all track of time. But I couldn’t help myself…Look at them!”

  • raul

I cant even paint a straight line on my models and some of these have the sixteen chapel painted on them.

    • Walter Vining

      there were 15 other chapels?

      • raul

I don’t know. probably but the sixteen one is the most famous.

        • Walter Vining

I haven’t heard of the sixteen one, the Sistine one ive heard of 😉

          • raul

Probably should do a bit more reading outside of the 40k universe then.

          • ZeeLobby

            /facepalm

          • zeno666

            lol

        • Arianod

You mean the sixteenth chapel ;3

          • Nostok

            But probably the Sistine.

          • Arianod

            Yeah, that one too ^^

      • Bigdadi99

LMFAO, where those other chaples at? Behind that preposition.

  • Hugh James Lamont

They are all really good but “The Tribute” is just on another level. Absolutely outstanding. In my opinion one of the best winners ever.

    • Agent of Change

Agreed. I love reviewing the golden deamon models and it’s always humbling but sometimes (not even every year) I see one like “The Tribute” that absolutely blows my mind.

There was one years ago a Bloodthirster submission named “Golgotha” that i got to see in person at the Baltimore GD that is in teh same category and it has stuck with me. http://pro.bols.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/usbal06_40k_large_3.jpg

    • af

Wow. Agreed. Are the models in The Tribute 100% custom? I don’t recognize which standard GW models were converted, if any. The vampire offering the sword is terrific.

  • orionburn

The one with the Nids swarming a trench is absolutely amazing. It totally captures what I imagine facing an invasion is like.

If only it had Guilliman bro-fisting Necrons and mowing them down. Would be more like real 40K! XD

      • Nocturne

The guy who made it documented all six years (!) of the process on his Warseer plog. Well worth a read!

        • ZeeLobby

That… Is… Insane. Just looked through it. Man. What an awesome diorama. Dude. I think I might have snapped if I took 6 years and got silver. I mean it’s hard to fault the judges. the Tribute is awesome. But I would have cried a little afterwards.

  • gr33n

a few really poorly painted models winning for some other reason… tech priest, battlefleet, sons of horus models are horrible

    • rtheom

That Sons of Horus one is hilarious! That plaguebearer was totally peeing in the pool and he popped back up right as that marine was running by and they scared the crap out of each other. 😀

    • dave long island

Hey, that means there’s hope for us normie painters out here to win one… lol

    • af

I wouldn’t say they are terrible, they just suffer in comparison to the other winners. They are also painted in a more “comic book” style, which is why they look odd.

      • gr33n

bad is a relative term. to me a winner of such a contest should have seamless blending which many do not and some great freehand. its just the result of weak participation to a specific bracket which then imo should not have a 2nd or 3rd place finisher. the issue for me is that the single category has 30 models deep that are not winning which are better than these “duels” and other “squad” nonsense. the squad and duel categorys are usually awful…

    • SWISSchris

The plague moon one looks so much more bright and cheery that I would imagine it to be in “real life”

  • Dennis J. Pechavar

Tribute is amazing as is that Megaboss.

  • CPT AWESOME

    Awesome.

  • Fergie0044

That Megaboss….I’m speechless. Flawless paint job, that makes event other entries on this page like shoddy by comparison.

    • ZeeLobby

it is super solid, like real clean lines, etc. The bone of the skull is just great.
