Take a look at what’s in store (and in stores) for the Fate of Konor Global Campaign.

Spotted over at Spikey Bits, a preview of the upcoming Summer Campaign, the Fate of Konor. They’ve managed to get a hold of one of the boxes bound for an FLGS near you and the end result is you get a peek inside. Here’s the long and short of it:

Each week the campaign will be fought over a different world in the Konor system. The Campaign will be fought on six worlds over six weeks; each week has its own theme, meant to get players collecting 8th; each world has their own unique stratagems that canny generals can use to carry the day. At the end of each week, players report their victories–Imperium or Chaos (Xenos get to sit at the kids table and pretend to be relevant)–and depending on who wins the most overall, victory is declared for one faction or the other. Each victory changes the campaig.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what’s in store!

First up, there’s the themes, broken down week by week.

It’s nice to see the build up like this. It keeps the campaign open for both new players as well as returning ones. Then it ramps up into the more complicated elements of the game, including Larry’s favorite, vehicles cropping up around week 3 or so. The Week 6 Showdown centered around scenery and Lords of War should make for some truly Titanic battles.

You’ll be battling for the Jewel of Konor, pictured here.

Then of course there’s the breakdown of the campaign itself, which is fairly straightforward. Each week you’ll be fighting over one of the six worlds of the Konor System: Astaramis, Loebos, Drenthal, Vanitor, Konor, and Nethamus, each with its own storyline, mission, and Stratagem that you can use. And of course, each mission will bear the weight of what’s happened before.

But it’s mostly Imperials and Chaos that have a seat at this table. It kind of stings to see what they have to say for the Xenos faction.

So basically you get to decide if you like the Imperium or Chaos better, whichever week you participate. And, I get that this story focuses on a battle between those two–8th Edition just came out and admitted, the Imperium vs. Chaos is the centerpiece of their grand storyline. It’s fine–but it feels a little wonky to get the whole “don’t worry you’re really still relevant and you play an important part in deciding the fate of the galaxy,” speech. It feels insincere, is all. But that’s a minor gripe in the face of what looks to be a compelling campaign. Here’s a look at the Stratagems you can employ:

As you can see, each of these is tied to a specific world. That Warp Surge strategy looks  AMAZING–pick a psychic power, and then for a single command point, manifest it again. That could easily get you the upper hand in a clutch turn. And while it does require you to have a Flyer, the Drenthal Stratagem is just full of flavor. It’s probably for the best that it’s a single model, and not a whole unit–and it’s enough to make me wonder if you’d get extra points in the aftermath for shooting down an enemy ace.

At any rate, there’s a lot more you can read on Spikey Bits about the campaign, including the full list of Stratagems.

Or head over to the Global Campaign Website and track its progress.

The Battle for Konor begins July 27th! What faction will you be playing?
