I am very nearly sold on this but what i can’t find is is there are any playtest reviews or in depth mechanics discussions.

It’s up my alley and it’s the sorta thing I’d grab a buddy a split the $300 price tag in a heartbeat if I knew anything at all about the gameplay.

Has anyone seen anything I haven’t?

    • Severius_Tolluck

Looks like a cross of bolt action and wings of glory…

      • Agent of Change

        I agree which sounds great.

I loved wings of glory for a long while and that transitioned to a love of xwing which IMO just did the same concept more elegantly with a bit more depth. The idea of a smaller scale for squadron/Wing sized dogfights appeals even more and I’m tantalized by the “advantage” base system.

I have not played bolt action so i don’t know their mechanics personally but I’ve heard good things. I guess my point is that’s a serious price tag to ask with no playthrough or review available.

        • Severius_Tolluck

I haven’t seen mechanics but looking at the dice, they resemble the ones used by the Test of Honor, which uses the core Bolt action mechanics for basic movement and unit activation. The attack dice though are different and those were exclusive to Test of Honor.

    • euansmith

I’ve just asked a question on their facebook page, and there is a gameplay video in coming. Tally-ho!

      • zeno666

        Yay!

  • Severius_Tolluck

Andy Chambers you say? Doing an aerial game? Hmm tempting…. they have my attention though!

  • euansmith

I think that a game play video would encourage me to drop some cash.

    • Severius_Tolluck

Me too, 300 is a bit steep for the big bundle, I should look and see if they have smaller ones.

      • euansmith

But the essential arithmetic is that our young men will have to shoot down their young men at the rate of four to one, if we’re to keep pace at all.

      • Agent of Change

        They do on their website.

$150 bundles for each nation that come with the core set 2 squadrons of the available plane and the ace

  • Shinnentai

Seems odd to me that there aren’t any close-ups of the models (or if there are, they’re not very prominent).

Also, I know this is just the initial release, but it feels like there’s a lack of variety here – 6 of the same plane in the expansions seems a bit much? (I guess larger bombers will come in smaller numbers).

If the rules are up to scratch I may buy into this down the line once there’s a greater variety of planes available, but not that interested at the moment.

    • euansmith

They are referring to the boxes as Squadrons, which implies all of the planes in the box will be of a single type. Also this is a game about dog-fighting, so, I guess, that bombers will probably only feature as objectives in “escort” missions.

    • Agent of Change

This apparently is meant to be a historical miniatures game for Flight level combat (depending on the force org historically that’s 12-24 aircraft made up of 3 to 4 Flights of 4-8 aircraft), And squadrons in real life are not mixed and matched under normal circumstances. Meaning in this case your are going to have identical aircraft. it appears based on descriptions I’ve found so far that the customization elements are going to be your personnel, as in real life your aircraft of a type are all built to the same specs but not all pilots are created equally.

    Achtung schpittfire!
I would love me some Me-109E’s
