Marvel is in the midst of a bunch of projects – here’s the latest in casting news from the movies and TV series.

TV first…

A good chunk of the initial cast and production crew of Luke Cage will be returning in 2018. There are two recent additions:

Mustafa Shakir is in the role of John McIver/Bushmaster (keeping with the bad guy snake theme); the character is described as a smooth talking, vengeful leader of Harlem. Not sure if they’ll be featuring his St. Croix accent, and/or his ongoing beef with Iron-Fist. There are also some plot possibilities with him and Misty Knight.

Nighshade is played by Nabiyah Be in Black Panther, and Gabrielle Dennis in the Netflix series. Not sure how large of a role Nighshade plays in the movie for the incongruent casting to really matter to audiences. She’s also a Harlem native. Born into poverty Nightshade becomes a self taught scientist and criminal mastermind. There are also some plot possibilities with this character and Misty Knight.

Moving on to movies…

There’s a compelling rumor running around that Samuel L. Jackson will be returning as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel. From Deadline:

Rumors began popping up on the fanboy sites over the Independence Day holiday that Samuel L. Jackson was reprising his role as Avengers architect and recruiter Nick Fury in Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and we hear it’s true that Jackson will be making an appearance in the movie.

When asked if he was returning to the MCU by MTV back in March (specifically if he was going to be playing Fury in Infinity War), he denied it.

“Who says I am? I don’t know. I’m asking you; I’m hoping you know maybe something I don’t know. Am I in that movie? IMDB says I am? You believe them? No, don’t believe IMDB. I haven’t heard from them. I don’t know what’s going on yet.”

So I’ll take this one with some salt until Marvel Studios flat out confirms it. It would be nice to have him back, though.

What are your thoughts on the new addition and rumors?
