Starfinder: Announcing an Alien Archive

3 Minute Read
Jul 5 2017

Starfinder’s latest announcement is sure to interest the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

Every good sci-fi or sci-fantasy game needs aliens. Which, sure, sounds like the title of a B-movie about a bunch of Earthlings going out and tracking down weird aliens and gathering them together for their game–but I have to assume that’s basically what happened here. From the folks at Paizo comes news of a whole archive of aliens–including androids, undead, aberrations, and all the other classic creature categories you know and love.

You might have seen a preview of some of the creatures we can expect in the First Contact book released on Free RPG day, and now, you can start getting what you need to populate your campaign’s strange new worlds with new life and new civilizations. So when your Starfinders are getting ready to boldly go where none have gone before, these alien monsters will be waiting to punch them in the face, attack their starship, possess them, turn them into aliens, possibly (hopefully) transmogrify at least one member of the party into a small white cube, and otherwise remind everyone that space is a dangerous place. Disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence, as one man put it.

This is where the proverbial rubber meets the road as far as Starfinder is concerned. I mean–sure the rules are going to be coming out, but we’ve already gotten a preview of those. And we know that both Starfinder creatures and Pathfinder creatures are all supposed to be compatible to some degree–but here’s where the Starfinder team really expands out their world.

After all, what’s the use in having all those fancy abilities if you never have anyone fun to use them against?
