It’s a world of Swashbuckling Adventure – The 7th Sea is on the Tabletop Spotlight. All ahead full!

Are you looking for an RPG with different mechanics than your typical D20 game? Are you wanting a setting that pulls from the likes of the Age of Sail, The Three Musketeers, and Pirates of the Caribbean? Are you wanting an RPG that puts the narrative in the driver seat instead of the stats? Well then our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics and Fantasy have brought over the perfect RPG for you – it’s 7th Sea and it’s on the Tabletop Spotlight:

For me, RPGs by there vary nature mean that each game should feel different. Everyone’s experiences with a game or game system will be viewed through the lens of their group of players. If you’re the Game Master, you’ve got a different view of a game than say a player who enjoys just showing up to hang-out with their friends. Or if you’re the type of Gamer who enjoys trying to squeeze every last bit of power out of your character then you’ll have a very different opinion about a game where stats take a back seat to the cooperative story being told.

7th Sea is a mix of all those things – At it’s core, it’s a D10 system where you (the player) create a character with stats and skills. Those are combined to form a pool of dice you can roll when a challenge or obstacle pops-up. The big difference is that you’re not trying to hit a target number per die – you’re trying to create “sets of 10” with your dice pool. Each “Set” counts as a single success and those can be used to “purchase” different outcomes when you have a challenge. The challenges and outcomes are created by the Game Master which means it’s a very narrative driven style of RPG.

The Core Rules are important to an RPG but arguably equally as important is the setting and I think that is one of the strongest features of 7th Sea. There are lots of RPGs out there with pirates or pirate-themed adventures. Or even games devoted to sailing ships and ship-to-ship combat. 7th Sea has all that plus the additions of court intrigue, magic, mystery, and romance…

If you’ve ever wanted to play a game in a setting where swashbuckling adventures can happen at the drop of a hat (or a fancy lady’s handkerchief), where dastardly barons collude with pirates of the seas, and where magic and mystery cross paths, then set course for your nearest FLGS and grab a copy of 7th Sea!

7th Sea: Second Edition Core Rulebook

7th Sea is a tabletop roleplaying game of swashbuckling and intrigue, exploration and adventure, taking place on the continent of Theah, a land of magic and mystery inspired by our own Europe. Players take the roles of heroes thrown into global conspiracies and sinister plots, exploring ancient ruins of a race long vanished and protecting the rightful kings and queens of Theah from murderous villains.

Save the Queen of Avalon from treacherous blackmail!

Thwart a dastardly assassination attempt on the Cardinal of Castille!

Raid the villainous fleets of Vodacce Merchant Princes!

Free the Prince of the Sarmatian Commonwealth from a mysterious curse!

Make decisions that alter the very course of Thean history!

In 7th Sea, you are a Hero, an icon of Theah ready to live and die for causes that matter. You bravely take on a dozen thugs with swords, knives and guns all on your own. You are the trusted knight, a loyal bodyguard or even an adventuring queen herself.

In other words—you are d’Artagnan, Milady de Winter, the Dread Pirate Roberts, Jack Sparrow, Julie d’Aubigney, and the Scarlet Pimpernel all rolled up in one!

This is a game of high adventure, mystery and action. This is a game of intrigue and romance.

This is 7th Sea.
