40K Breaking: Deathguard and Ad-Mech Codexes

Take a look at the upcoming Deathguard and the newly announced Adeptus Mechanicus codex.

The office betting pool had been shattered. The next Codex is not, in fact, chock full of power armor. It’s full of Skitarii–who even though it sounds like they should be making an appearance on Stargate SG-1 are in fact a bunch of robots and cyber men.

But not Cybermen.

This is pretty exciting news, the AdMech were some of the best new (relatively) designs that GW had been working on, and they’be really been stepping up their modeling game. I mean,  just look at how sexy Mortarion is at the head of those Deathguard.

Speaking of segues:

via Warhammer Community

This is one of the most exciting armies of the new edition, and you can expect to see loads of new and revamped units (you may be able to pick out a few of them from the picture, if you’re not too distracted by just how awesome Mortarion looks leading his Legion).

How many new units can you spot? I see Plague Terminators, NEW TYPHUS, the Plagueburst Crawlers in the back (and it looks like there’s something in between them and the Blight Drones – sporting new weapons). There’s that gross looking Defiler in the back, and of course, foreshadowing their upcoming codex, a hapless band of doomed Imperials in the foreground. Also nice touch with the Nurgle symbols strapped to the Marine statues.

Hey look at that, another segue.

And not a mall cop in sight.

The Adeptus Mechanicus are being re-armed for the new edition with their best codex ever. This book will contain rules for fielding the Cult Mechanicus, the Skitarii and the Knights of the Questor Mechanicus, alongside – for the first time – powerful faction rules for seven forge worlds.

Codex: Death Guard will be out in September, with Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus not far behind.

Well there you have it folks. Two new codices coming in short order. I’m particularly excited to see Forge Worlds get their own faction rules. I wonder if we’ll see a different codex for like Konor or one of the other narrative heavy ones. But that might be asking too much of a relatively newer faction.

We’ll just have to wait and see!

In the meantime, what do you think of the announcement? And did you spot any as yet unrevealed units?

  • barry sadler

    Well typhus has hooves now

    • blackbloodshaman

Is Typhus the guy in the middle raising his scyth in triumph? Ah to have young eyes

      • barry sadler

Seems to be, he’s got the signature white helm. There’s also a plague drone with heavy bile cannon and one with a deff rolla

        • blackbloodshaman

Yeah, I wish they would put new stuff up front. It looks like the multipart plague Marines are in back as well

      • I_am_Alpharius

Well there are two that could be Typhus. There is one Terminator holding a Scythe raised and another in front of Morty with the traditional Typhus pose but now with added cape.

        • Ravingbantha

The one with the White helm holding up his scythe looks to be Typhus, the helm matches what it’s always looked like. Plus he has that traditional GW ‘I’m a boss model, so I have to holding up my weapon unnecessarily’ pose.

    • Severius_Tolluck

Eh if Blanche did the original concept art he probably started that way.

    • Bootneck

No thats not Typhus, just a generic Nurgle lord kit.

Sadly were still stuck with the old one http://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/21179d64830d54967e2138bef8049302b79ffd8b50f7fe8fd5ab8891fd765341.jpg

      • danbond

it almost certainly is. To quote the official GW Warhammer 40,000 page on Facebook:

“including a fresh take on a familiar (and pox-ridden) face”

Last time I checked, the only nurgle character for Chaos Marines currently was Typhus

        • Bootneck

If the new codex is out in a couple of weeks, that’s a bit out of order still flogging the old fincrap model.

They could at least make him unavailable.

          • You could buy Ahriman and Khârn’s old models for weeks following the actual release of the new models.

      • Ravingbantha

Typhus isn’t even on the US site anymore. The British site may still have the old model in stock, but it’s probably just trying to sell off the excess stock while they can.

        • Matt Razincka

Old Typhus has been unavailable on the US site since before new edition was announced.

          • Ravingbantha

He’s been on the site, just listed as ‘No Longer available’ now he’s not even there.

  • I_am_Alpharius

Called it with Adeptus Mechanicus being one of the first 10 codexes. Wonder if I’ll accurate with the rest.

    • Fraser1191

Knights are also in the Ad-mech book so double whammy lol

      • I_am_Alpharius

Well it has the Ad-mech themed ones. So I’ll take a 1 1/2 win.

        • Fraser1191

In my opinion they may as well throw the other imperial houses in there too cause otherwise it would just a… re.. print… oh

    • Jabberwokk

I selfishly want a ‘Nid codex soonish.

      • Pcm979

If we’re talking selfishness, I want my Space Pretty Boy Vampires ASAP, along with their Primaris upgrade sprue. That’d be yet another SM Codex, but that’s why it’s a selfish desire and not an altruistic one.

        • Jabberwokk

Ya but when your xenos it’s hard not to see all these factions as one giant massive space marines codex.

          • Pcm979

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I meant. “I’m selfish for wanting another Space Marine Codex because I know there are too bloody many of them already.”

          • Jabberwokk

Well they should do some time warp/chaos rift shenannigans and have say BA diverge greatly. Then it would be more tolerable. Here’s hoping to a good BA codex for ya, ya Blood sucking pretty-marine!

    • Reddog

GW heavily hinted that Ad Mech and Astra Militarum would be after DG. Not sure why BOLS didn’t have them on their list.

    • I_am_Alpharius

We’ll crab crawl or track roll.

  • Randall Glenn Preston
    • Pcm979

I really, really hate to say it, but with every new DG model that comes out, I like their new aesthetic less.

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

I am the opposite. Love these models.

        • Pcm979

I’m glad for you! And, since this is the internet, I should probably establish that I’m not being sarcastic. It’s nice to enjoy things.

          • Red_Five_Standing_By

Sorry you don’t like them. It is a stylistic change, for sure.

  • Heinz Fiction

Nice to see a non Space Marine Codex. Still Imperim but well…

    • Pcm979

That’s just what we want the Ecclesiarchy and the High Lords to think. Soon the Mechanicum shall be free from the shackles of Terra! All hail the Omnissiah! All praise the Motive Force! Mars Aeternum!

      • EnTyme

One of these days, the Necrons are going to activate The Device and reawaken the Void Dragon (or “Machine Spirit” as you call him). We’ll welcome our (mostly) mechanical brothers into the dynasty with open metal arms.

        • Red_Five_Standing_By

Well, awaken a shard of the Void Dragon.

          • V0iddrgn

No thanks, no more shards! We want our primarchs too!

      • Mr.Gold
  • artty

looks like bloat drones are going to get weapon options! woot!!!

    • artty

i now realize they say that in the comments now… I hate reading! woohoo pics!

      • Wolf-Assassin

well you should have commented on the new tank in the background instead 😉 but we saw blury pictures of them before 🙂

  • Fergie0044

Ah my two 40k armies back to back. poor poor wallet….

Although I might be spared having to buy a separate demons codex if they’re included in DG. After all that pick has plague drones in the background…

Although my great fear remains that some of my current chaos guys (like oblits, vindicators or bikers) won’t be included in DG for some reason.

    • Fraser1191

Just remember you can use the index rules lmao
      I think that’s dumb but whatever….

      • Fergie0044

Didn’t buy the indexs. Knew I’d have little time for 40k this summer (damn real life getting in the way) so figured I could just wait for the actual dexs. Although its a pleasant surprise to see ad-mech so quickly.

        • Fraser1191

True but with the release of death guard so close I feel like there won’t be any new models for the Ad-mech when the codex drops

          • Fergie0044

I’m not expecting any, same as chaos and grey knights. DG is the big release right now, probably followed by some nurgle stuff for AoS and then a major AoS race. All the while new 40k dexs will be peppered about.

  • Gaven Sizemore

What are those imperium models fighting off the deathguard next to greyfax?

    • I_am_Alpharius

    • CF

  • Shawn Lyons

Looks like a new tank behind the infanty. Or a tracked mortar or artillery piece.

    • I_am_Alpharius

It is. Blurry photo of the tank where also spotted a couple of weeks back in the recently released Getting Started in Warhammer 40,000 book.

  • BrianDavion

looks like Imperial Knights have been folded into admech

  • Rayna M. McCowan

Three things I take away from this is that 1, Ad-Mech is not releasing at the same time, so Death Guard is an isolated release with Ad-Mech a bit behind (maybe two weeks?). 2, won’t all be marine codexes put out by GW, which is interesting to see, wonder where Ad-Mech sits on popularity for sales and how popularity of sales lines up with codex release schedule. 3, some seperate factions are being wrapped up into larger codexes, so expecting all Ad-Mech + Imperial Knights here. Ministorum likely will be their own codex as will Talons of the Emperor which will have the Inquisition within it.

I kind of wish GW wouldn’t string us on and just put it out there what codexes are coming out when for existing factions so people can put some money aside for it. But, corporations don’t get how to do measured hype.

    • Mr.Gold

they might have Admech versions of the knights e.g. they might all have the Canticles special rule and access to Admech Relics, but the standard Imperial Knights codex might still be released separately (just a guess) with a different rule that allows them to work in a different way and/or have other bonuses/relics etc…

  • Mathew G. Smith

“Their best codex ever”. Considering it’s their first coombined codex that means literally nothing.

  • Xavier Ramey

Gimme dark mechanicus. Chaos skitarii, Murder servitors with twin auto cannons and spider legs.
