Black Library

Warhammer Chronicles: Legend of Sigmar $21 paperback

Before he became the God-King of Azyr and saviour of the Mortal Realms, before the Old World perished in the fires of the End Times, before even the rise of the Empire, Sigmar was a mortal man. As the young chieftain of the Unberogen tribe, he saved the high king of the dwarfs, earning the eternal friendship of the mountain folk. When a mightly horde of orcs threatened his lands, he united the tribes of men to stand against them at Black Fire Pass. He broke the siege of Middenheim and pushed back the forces of Chaos. And in defeating the great necromancer Nagash, he saved mankind, securing the future of the Empire and taking his first steps on the road to godhood. His deeds are legend. This is his story.

~What are you picking up?

  • AEZ

Wonder how much of a discount that box is.

    • Damon Sherman

it’s kinda not. Techically it is just to “Get started” kits with their respective characters. Hopefully this isn’t the only way to get that snail guy.

      • Christie Bryden

well we saw with the original age of sigmar box they eventualy released the characters, it may take time though. I just hope its not the precurser to another stormcast release, way too many of them, I dont mind indivual characters though, especialy since its a female one.

      • ZeeLobby

They’ll re-release him later for some crazy price. They’ve been doing this for a while.

        • Jeffrey Egan

I finally logged in to a disqus account, so I can say this now: ZeeLobby, your negativity is a blight on the wargaming community! I absolutely hate reading your thoughtless, spiteful, knee-jerk reaction to everything GW produces. Every time I accidentally scroll down into the BOLS comment section, your “analysis” makes me regret the mistake immediately. If this company is so unfair to you, then why don’t you find a new one? I would guess that Horticulous–a truly stunning model–will later be sold for $50, which is a fair price for a model so characterful and expertly sculpted.

          • Wampasaurus

I feel like this is one of those “think before you hit send” moments. You could have simply ignored the post, or rolled your eyes and gone about your day. Just like (perhaps) ZeeLobby might not have to make a negative comment about GW, you don’t have to make a negative comment about them. Negativity heaped upon negativity does not promote a more inclusive gaming community. Can’t we all just agree to at least be civil with each other?

          • ZeeLobby

Eh. There’s a ton of comment police out there. If you don’t agree with their side they call you a “whiner” or a “fanboy”. They usually don’t stick around too long though. There are plenty of commentators here that I love discussing wargaming with, and while we might not share the same opinions, we try to avoid labeling. I actually appreciate that BoLS has a good mix of everyone. There are plenty of other echo chambers out there.

          • To be fair, Zee, you are kind of relentlessly smug, and you love the sound of your own voice a bit too much. I can see why you would be singled out. You do have some intelligent commentary to make, but if you bit your tongue even 50% of the time rather than be condescending to those who still enjoy GW products, the conversation would be better for it.

          • Mira Bella

Thats just unfair! When will I be finally singled out by the Positiv-Police for my condescending behavior and my smug comments! I try way harder then Zee!

          • Munn

Since we all know who Zee is and I have no idea who you are, I doubt it.

          • Mira Bella

I visit this site on a daily base for almost 10 years now. So yeah, I would consider myself to be a regular.

All in all I had about 6-8 different accounts over the years so I really don’t expect you to know me Munn. 😛

          • ZeeLobby

I mean the odd thing is that I still enjoy GW products as well. Played Shadow Wars last week and am very excited to see the new version of Necromunda. I can try to bite my tongue a bit more, but honestly it’s tough when people respond in a harsh way with literally no factual/logical reasoning behind their argument. It’s hard for me not to be condescending to those people.

I have very little respect for blind belief in anything, and am outright disgusted by fanboyism to any company whose sole priority is the money in your pockets. I guess that shows through many times, and I’m sorry if it truly upsets anyone. I’m not trying to upset them, or make them feel bad. I’m trying to make them think more, and respond with a supported argument. When that happens the convos can be great.

I don’t always agree with commentators like Xodis, WellSpokenMan, dave long island, etc. And we may occasionally get in tiffs, but I enjoy the conversation and back and forth. At the same time it’s just overly boring and droll to constantly run into whiners whining about whiners, and people upset that something that was posted may be negative. I mean I know people want everyone to be as exciting and positive about everything they are, but they don’t HAVE to be. But I’ll always call out any company for poor design, poor rules, silly models, etc.

Haha, sorry for the wall of text, time to /endrant.

          • Jeffrey Egan

I gave a longer reply below, and have no plans to carry on pointing out chronic negativity in future thread (who has the time, and would it even help?). I certainly did not intend to be rude or unfair. That was my honest assessment of ZeeLobby’s history of comments on GW-related thread. I wondered why he wouldn’t just post in the comment sections of games he likes since GW so regularly disappoints him.

          • ZeeLobby

Lol. Sorry for being truthful. If you can’t stomach discussions based in reality, maybe creating a disqus account was a bad idea.

          • joe johnston

You are a miserable bugger aye

          • ZeeLobby

            Cheers 😀

          • Richard Mitchell

The whole “I am tired of your negativity” thing is so crazy. Never thought the comments section needed a hall monitor. First response to the guy was like “If you don’t like throwing paper airplanes in detention with the rest of us losers who got caught smoking in bathroom, then you can go home”.

          • Mira Bella

Nobody here cares about your opinion Jeffrey.
Zee has been part of this community for a long time.
Go find for your echo chamber somewhere else if you don’t like it here.

        • See what you’ve done! You created another true believer! How dare you not like what he likes!

          • ZeeLobby

            Haha. It’s my gift! XD

          • zeno666

        • zeno666

          Most likely yes

        • Mira Bella

Seems like you have a new Fan. 🙂
Positiv Police is out in Force today!

          • ZeeLobby

Eh, I think it’s pretty impressive he created an account just to call me negative. I don’t really care, it’s not like i haven’t been called worse in internet discussions before, but this is a unique one :D.

          • Commissar Molotov

It’s an old account, but if you look at the posts every single one is shilling for various GeeDub products…

          • ZeeLobby

Eh. Some people lurk and love :D.

          • Jeffrey Egan

I didn’t create an account to write a negative post about you. I created an account to use on another forum and found out that it could be used here. So, when I scrolled down to the comments and saw your “They’ll re-release him later for some crazy price. They’ve been doing this for a while” comment, I thought: hey, that’s the guy who tends to trash GW in a condescending way and helps make the BOLS comment section toxic–especially for new players. I have read your posts for months. This wasn’t a case of me swooping in, being offended, and lashing out randomly. I wanted you to know that I think your comments are overwhelmingly negative and unproductive. I promise not to pester you by restating my point in future threads. That’s not what I’m about.

But before I move on from this discussion, can I ask what a non-crazy price for the new Horticulous model would be? You say he will cost $60. I think that is a high estimate. I would guess he will be $50 in 6-12 months when they re-release him.

          • ZeeLobby

Touche. I misread your original comment.

As far as my comments go, sure they might be negative, and some are positive, but I fail to see how comments by nature can be “unproductive”, what exactly would a productive comment on pricing and availability look like? I just commented my belief that it will be released later, and at a higher price than what is available in this box. A price that I would personally consider crazy.

As for my guesstimate, it’s just what I would expect for a model available at discount in an alternative box for solo purchase. Similarly based models have gone for around $50 (at least on the 40K side), but I wouldn’t be shocked at markup due forcing pressure of purchasing the $160 box set as an alternative.

      • Jeffrey Egan

That is patently untrue. There is no stormcast “getting started” box that includes any of these models. The models in this campaign box are offered at a very steep discount.

        • Damon Sherman

not an AoS guy, so didn’t care about the sigmar guys. I just recognized the nurgle “getting started” box.

        • ZeeLobby

Well being included in all of the core boxes and side game starters kind of makes a “getting started” box for Stormcast unnecessary. They already have plenty of good deals available, you just have to be willing to find someone to buy the other half.

          • bobrunnicles

Unless I’m wrong, the ones in all the prior starter boxes are monopose with the exact same weapon options – the ones in the Start Collecting box give you more weapon options and poseability and are just far more flexible.

          • ZeeLobby

True. I just don’t think GW really sees that as an issue. I’m not saying they shouldn’t release a Stormcast start collecting. They definitely should. Just that the Start Collecting boxes are there to lure people to the game with somewhat affordable pricing. Stormcast already have box sets out there that do that, to some degree. If a player is “starting” to collect, the weapon options and pose-ability is probably less of a concern when it comes to their purchase.

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

The cost of the individual kit will likely be like 50 bucks. Relative to what else you get in the box, it might be better to just buy this box.

        • Damon Sherman

no one plays AOS in my area, so eating $160 and hoping i can sell the sigmar stuff for $80 on ebay kinda stings.

    • Fergie0044

Compared to the models on their own – its great value. Compared to existing ‘get started’ boxes it’s a little below average.
Depends on how much value you put on the new character models I suppose.

      • Angel Grinder

I did a quick RRP on UK price yesterday and the Nurgle items without the snail is over 2/3rds of the price so a bargain to me – fleabay for the good guys! That snail dude is worth the faff 🙂

        • ZeeLobby

Just be careful. Fleabay is already saturated with Stormcast (the new Space Marines of fantasy). You might not make all that much money back.

    • Deck Deck

You basicly buy 2 better Start Collecting Nurgle and Vanguard Stormcast for 160$. These are full kit which is much much better than snap fit kit.

    • Munn

Since none of you muppets could be bothered to do more than complain, I took care of it. Assuming 20$ for the 2 characters(very cheap by GW standards) AND take the nurgle start collecting price the box retails at 250$ which is a 36% discount even ignoring the already discounted price of the nurgle start collecting. Even without the characters it’s still 50$ off the total price of the minis.

  • Johannes Korsholm Poulsen

Blightwar sounds expensive. Same price as Dark Imperium!

    • biome3

Yeah, its just what you get when the make boxes like that with normal models rather than single pose one.

  • Razerfree

Value is gonna be somewhere around $210 without counting the characters. Those are going to be probably around $25 and $40 if you count one as a clampack Knight Questor and the other as a mounted model like the Lord-Aquilor.

  • dave long island

$160 for Blightwar? Time to sue for peace.

  • Randy Randalman

If it were two Start Collecting boxes, it would be $170. So this already saves over even their insanely discounted SC boxes. If they were individual kits, the Nurgle side alone is $115 + whatever that character will cost (probably $40).

Anyone who thinks this isn’t saving at least 33% can’t count.

    • Jeffrey Egan

  • I_am_Alpharius

Blightwar = Not starter set. Just saying….

  • Admiral Raptor

That’ll be $190 Canadian :(. I shouldn’t do it at that price, but I’m probably going to. I need that snail. I guess I could sell off the Stormcast stuff, but I know once I get it I’ll probably just end up wanting to make an army, which will necessitate buying a second set. The life of an addict is rough.

Any SC players around that can tell me if the units included in this set are worthwhile?

    • Munn

The bowman are incredible, the chocobos are solid, the basic guys are alright on the own but really shine if you combine them with the Lord Aquilor and the other units in this box(they’re battleline with a Lord Aquilor General).

      • Admiral Raptor

“chocobos” I never noticed the similarities, but now I can never unsee this! 😛 Thanks for the rundown!

  • memitchell

Alright, you can’t destroy the Old World “in the fires of the End Time.” Get rid of beloved WFB. And, replace the WFB mythos with some ding-dong floating realms nonsense. And, then publish a book about the glory times of the Old World. You just can’t.

    • ZeeLobby

I weep every time I play Total War: Warhammer, lol.

  • I like the new Stormcast character and the Stormcast force looks pretty good. The nurgle minis do nothing for me, though the paint job may well be part of that.

I’d be tempted to pick this up only despite my best efforts AoS just does nothing for me. Fair enough to anyone who digs it though.

  • JayBiga

Never thought I’d find myself saying this, but this is tempting me to get into AoS! Always loved the Nurgle daemons and that dude on the snail takes the cake. Plus the Stormcasts ain’t bad either, with the character model being tres cool.

    • Rainthezangoose

Id advise it, It was WarhammerQuest that cost me to take the plunge. Its a great system because it focuses on having fun rather then book keeping and number crunching.

  • Matt Razincka

Kinda disappointed in the price of Blightwar. After Dark Imperium included the hardbound rules for the same price, that seems to be asking a lot here.

  • dynath

Wonder how much the female stormcasts will go for scalped on Ebay.
