GW’s Q3-4 2017 Schedule – Putting it all Together

There’s so much GW stuff coming down the pipe – it’s hard to keep track. Time to put it all together:

This is all 100% confirmed from GW from a variety of public press releases and teaser videos over the last few months.

September

Codex Death Guard

We’ve seen at least a half dozen new kits from Mortarion to the Plagueburst Mortar. This promises to be a lengthy major release.

Codex Adeptus Mechanicus

Aside from the codex, nothing is officially known of the return of the Mechanicus

October

Shadespire

We’ve played the game at GENCON and a new Ironjawz expansion has just been announced.

October – November

Codex Craftworld Eldar

Codex Tyranids

Codex Astra Militarum

Three codexes coming across two months.  No details on what is coming alongside these. Time will tell.

November

Necromunda Underhive

Clans Escher and Goliath return with an all new 21st century version of a GW classic.  We’ve seen the minis, and eagerly await details on the rules.

December

Warhammer 40,000 Chapter Approved (will arrive “in time for Christmas”)

It’s like the General’s Handbook – but with lasers.

Two last codexes from the set of 10 for 2017 (we’ve already had GW unveil the first 8, up till November)

Some basic math indicates the last two unknown codexes must be lurking in December or in some other Necron pocket-dimensional month.

2018

Age of Sigmar: Malign Portents

At last Grand Alliance DEATH gets some Age of Sigmar love.  Nagash is patient indeed.

Mysteries

Adeptus Titanicus

Horus Heresy Rulebook (will arrive “soon”)

Thoughts

This is a lot of stuff, but there are still quite a number of holes in that schedule.  For example, there is very little Age of Sigmar in there – and I doubt GW would let the 8 Realms go idle for 4 months. Forge World has been extremely quiet since the launch of 40K 8th Edition, with not a peep except for the teaser for the 30K rulebook.  Adeptus Titanicus has been dead quiet for months.

So all of the codexes will sell well.

The box sets will be popular, especially Titanicus.

Chapter Approved is a must buy for all 40k players.

Seems like a great way to end the year.

Also don;t forget about the end of year bundles.

    • BaronVonYoloing

Forget end of year bundles! I want to know if the XL cans are back. Hopefully with less 70’s porn soundtracks this time.

    • ZeeLobby

You really think titanicus will sell that well? Most people around here seem to have written it off already due to the scale change from Epic and the purchasing additional stuff from FW. I mean those could be wrong rumors but…

      • Red_Five_Standing_By

Look at Blood Bowl. That game sold like gang busters. Titanticus is going to be the same.

The change in scale had to happen. Epic minis were not rare enough. The market would have been flooded by old minis, which means less profit for GW.

        • ZeeLobby

Second parts def true, but while BB sold like gangbusters, I never see it played anymore. A ton of people have moved on to guild ball and other systems. The initial titanicus box will probably sell well, I’m just wondering about it’s longevity (same with Necromunda). GW just doesn’t support their smaller systems like they used to.

  • BartTP

What’s release date of Death Guard codex?

    • wibbling

September, 9th pre-order, 16th available (if memory serves). I think it is out around the same time as Mortarion.

      More generally – September.

      • Fergie0044

Yea my local GW guy said the same dates. First week is the codex and Mort.
Oddly he is also expecting the Ad Mech codex the same week as the DG one. But I would have thought it would be a separate release at the end of the month?

        • bobrunnicles

Maybe not – CSMs and Grey Knights were released the same week, no?

        • I_am_Alpharius

Ad-mech “collectors Edition” has a date of 9th for pre-order and 16th on sale. Oddly the standard version and Cawl both have a pre-order of 16th and release of 23rd.

  • Shenordak

Just to take a guess, there has to be an aelves release soon. We’ve had a few teasers and they can’t just sit on the minis forever… Right?

    • DoctorBored

Well, GW has a tendency to bounce between 40k and AoS, but AoS did just get Blightwar… tough to say.

  • Boreno

Also dont forget the new Horus Heresy box, rumors said about Death Guard vs Dark Angels or White Scars.

  • Jeffrey Egan

There will also be the AOS Firestorm Campaign (map and tokens) released in October alongside those cool army boxes (elves+SC, dwarves+SC, and humans+SC)

  • SacTownBrian

I’ve often wondered where Titanicus even fits in. It will just be a one off board game that will just flash in and out. At lest Necromunda has staying power with multi uses for the models.

    • Azhrarn

Titanicus is looking to be full 10 or 15mm Epic Titan warfare. Most of them supplied by FW, so it’ll be an expensive game. But it won’t be a board-game as such, I imagine it’ll be tabletop like regular 40k or old Epic.

      • SacTownBrian

8mm. But I have to imagine it won’t be as popular as any of the GW 28mm games. The models won’t be multi purpose. The only way I would even consider buying is if I see people playing the game locally. Today No One in Sacramento is playing Hobbit, Blood Bowl, Armageddon, AoS Skirmish, etc. without extremely rare events run by a dedicated few (I.e. One event after launch then silence). But any day I can go into any of four local FLGs or the local GW and get a pick up game of either AoS or 40K, and there are multiple regional events every weekend. Interesting idea but this will be my spectator game only.

        • Azhrarn

And that’s perfectly understandable. It’ll be costly, and not a stand-alone boardgame, so unless you have a player community for it, it’s not something to invest in, unless you really want the models on their own.

    • I_am_Alpharius

In Epic there a plenty of different Imperial Titans that FW can do. At some point I’m sure FW would do Chaos “upgrades” or straight Chaos version. Then of course they can expand into all the other races “titan” units. There loads they can delve into.

    • Wonderdog

Titanicus will be 8mm, and was pushed back a full year to Q2 2018 to allow for plastics. Fret not – it’s going to be glorious.

  • Harry_Jamieson

I would also expect a new Horus Heresy box set at some point.
