It will be no easy task as Greyfax – with the aid of a long dead inquisitor – must journey into the Eye of Terror itself and challenge a traitor of a truly ancient pedigree, the crone Moriana.

Watchers of the Throne – the Emperor’s Legion (Hardback) $27

THE STORY
The Custodian Guard have stood watch over the Emperor’s Palace on Terra since the foundation of the Imperium. Charged with protecting the Master of Mankind from all threats, within and without, their fearsome resolve is renowned throughout the galaxy, and their golden armour is the last thing that a would-be assassin or saboteur will ever see. Alongside the Null-maidens of the Sisters of Silence, who are anathema to psykers and sorcerers alike, there is no threat to the Golden Throne that they alone cannot vanquish… until now.

~What are you picking up?

  • Carey_Mahoney

Again, they didn’t even bother to give a new Codex a new cover artwork.

    • Fergie0044

When it looks that good, they don’t need to!

      • Carey_Mahoney

It’s certainly great artwork, no doubt about that!
Still, I’d prefer every new edition of a codex to have its own unique cover art.

    • Diablix

I was skeptic with the CSM codex too: same old cover and no collector’s edition –> “that’s says a lot about the amount of effort they put into”.
However I must admit that the codex, even though not perfect, is for sure one of the best GW codex so far: good internal balance, competitive but not overpowered (for me a codex like the 7th edition eldar one is a bad codex), with a decent amount of different builds and flavours available.
So I’m quite optimistic… my only fear now is a progressive power creep. Let’s wait and keep our fingers crossed

      • memitchell

I’m counting on progressive power creep. When my Genestealer Cult codex comes out right before 9th Edition, it will DOMINATE (for a month, maybe even two!).

        • Red_Five_Standing_By

Have to played Genestealer Cult this edition?

If you go first, you can easily cripple someone with a solid alpha strike.

          • Mira Bella

“If you go first, you can easily cripple someone with a solid alpha strike”
Yeah… That is not a good thing. In fact I think it’s one of the biggest problems of 8th edition.

  • Fergie0044

Only one DG release? There’s still quite a few kits left, at this rate they will spill into mid-October.

I count; new plague marines, poxwalkers (maybe), new tank, new drone with options, that other drone like vehicle, the other terminators plus all the characters.

    • Tom Higgins

surely a staggered release is better for most people as they’ll be able to pick up a box or char every month?

      • Fergie0044

Oh I wasn’t saying it was good or bad, merely surprised that with 8+ kits to come that we only get one this week.

        • Gorsameth

          Mechanicus, Eldar, Tyranids and Guard.

none of those are likely to get new models so there is a lot of empty space for DG models to be released.

          • euansmith

Won’t there be a new 6″ tall model of Eldrad? 😉

    • Ghachii

Don’t forget the new Great Unclean One. 😉

      • Pl4gu3 B4st4rd

        Wait, what ?

        • Ghachii

Haha! Completely unconfirmed rumour! Some people are thinking that the releases will follow the same pattern as Tzeentch earlier in the year – 40K stuff, followed by AoS stuff, then capped off with a new Greater Daemon plastic kit. Given how badly dated the current GUO is, this seems like a reasonable bet, but it’s still complete guesswork at this stage.

          • Fergie0044

Would make sense, but sadly there is no GUO in the DG codex, so maybe not. 🙁

          • Pl4gu3 B4st4rd

Scabeiathrax the Forge World Daemon is now the official Great unclean One

          • __

the daemons that are in the book are only there to be summoned by death guard characters, there is no way to run them in a death guard army unless you use the keyword “nurgle”

          • Fergie0044

Really? 🙁 how does an allied daemon army effect the army? do you lose the legion trait?

          • __

It only affects it if they are in the same detachment, so if you had a brigade detachment that consists of only “death guard” keyword models, you would receive the benefit of inexorable advance (rapid fire at 18″ and no heavy weapon penalty). You could then (in the same army) have a additional detachment, say a patrol one of nurgle daemons, then they would not count against the ‘purity’ of your death guard detachment so all of your death guard models get their unique rules similar to legion traits. However, if you took a mixture of death guard and nurgle daemon units in the same detachment then they would not benefit from rules such as inexorable advance. Note that both versions of this army operate under the keywords “nurgle” and “chaos”, rather than specifically chaos daemons or heretic astartes, so there may be some rules that will require an army consisting of only death guard OR daemons. The lesser daemons are included in the codex simply for ease of reference, as any death guard character (including all the new elite ones like the biologus putrifier) can summon these to the battlefield. Hope this (very long) summary helped clear some of that up for you.

    • pokemastercube .

i expect the terminators to be a duel kit cos of the other terminators in the codex and gw loves to duel kit where possible

      • BaronSnakPak

It won’t be a dual kit. Deathshroud are a 3 man unit, the regular terminators are 5 man.

        • pokemastercube .

look at my reply to fergie0044 please save me typing it out twice, thanks

      • Fergie0044

Yea I’d have thought so but the official warhammer community article only referred to them as deathshroud. Maybe they will be a kit of 3 guys while the more normal termies will be in the usual 5?

        • pokemastercube .

the contence page diddnt list the normal terminators only deathshroud and blightlord termies

          • __

There are no “normal” terminators in the death guard codex, only blightlord terminators and deathshroud terminators

          • pokemastercube .

that is kinda what i just said

    • Mike mad cow

is anyone really going to pay $20 a piece for 3 mono-pose models?

  • Mr.Gold

Are there going to be any admech data cards? Stratagems etc?

    • Timotheus

“Adeptus Mechanicus – Data Cards $15”

  • euansmith

“Inquisitor Greyfax and a retinue of incorruptible Grey Knights…”

I’d be more interested if it said, “Inquisitor Greyfax and a retinue of incorrigible ne’er-do-wells…”

But still, it is THE Gav Thorpe.

    • memitchell

Ever notice that in real life “ne’er-do-wells,” ne’er-do-well?
      Just say’n…

      • euansmith

Well probably 1% of them do rather well.

    • The entire audio drama, and the second one, have been out for months now. They’re pretty damn good.

  • uatu13

Is this really only 3 mono-pose guys for $60?!?

    • LankTank

Same as the exalted sorcerors. Id imagine some choicesp

    • Mike mad cow

i said the exact same thing. That’s crazy even by GW standards
