Warmaidens & Dragonbreds by Shieldwolf Miniatures
Let’s start things off with what is perhaps the most relevant Kickstarter campaign for the average BoLS reader. Shieldwolf Miniatures has been to Kickstarter several times before to expand their line of multipart plastic fantasy miniatures, and this campaign is no exception. However, the part that has been drawing the most attention are the sci-fi Wolf Sisters half of the campaign, and for good reason. Let’s not beat around the bush any more: These are basically plastic Sisters of Battle, albeit with Nordic flavor that would look right at home alongside a Space Wolf army.
Each box of Sisters will contain enough parts to build 10 warrior-maidens packing a variety of ranged and melee weapons. The army also includes resin heroes and vehicles, such as the FmRir, Lofin, and Snotra, which are totally not a Predator, Rhino, and Razorback, respectively. While they don’t quite match the aesthetic of the Sisters of Battle, these (along with the offerings from Raging Heroes) are probably the closest 40k fans can expect in the foreseeable future. There’s a ton of pledges available depending on if you want fantasy or sci-fi Sisters, so be sure to check out the full campaign.
While the plastic Not-Sororitas are perhaps the most exciting campaign on Kickstarter right now for miniature gamers, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some other cool projects to check out:
The Twilight Traveler by World of Twilight
The World of Twilight is a small fantasy skirmish game that has been quietly expanding over the years, and its developer is currently funding a new issue of the game’s semi-regular magazine, The Twilight Traveler. This magazine will be 24 pages long and include lore and new models for the Engineers of Anyaral, one of the game’s original factions. The magazine will eventually be released digitally, but this is your chance to grab an early, printed copy, along with some updated stat and reference cards and a miniature for the eccentric inventor Belomoch dre Hearne, all for £16/$21. You can grab some starter boxes and other new models as part of the campaign as well.
Everlasting Wet Palette by Redgrass Games
Now that you’ve Kickstarted some new miniatures, why not invest in a fancy new wet palette to make painting them easier? The aptly-named Everlasting Wet Palette promises to be the most efficient and well-hydrated wet palette you’ll ever use. This wet palette consists of an airtight and leak resistant ABS case, a mold resistant foam insert, and the hydration paper itself. The sides of the case contain magnetic docking slots that allow you to attach accessories like brush holders and paint wells. The Painter model measures 15 x 20 cm, while the Studio version is 20 x 30 cm. Pledges start at €25/$30.
The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena by IDW Games
Pro-Bending Arena is a competitive sports board game set during the first season of Nickelodeon’s popular Legend of Korra animated series. Each of the teams consist of three benders that use their elemental powers to try and push their rivals off the board. Teams have unique special rules, and you can further customize your play style with technique cards that give you new passive or activate abilities. You can buy a copy of the Kickstarter exclusive deluxe edition for $65.
Cerebria by Mindclash Games
Finally we come to Cerebria, a new team-based area control game by the creators of Trickerion and Anachrony. Players control Spirits, the personification of emotions within a person’s mind, and are divided into two factions: Bliss and Gloom. Cerebria is in a constant state of flux, and both factions compete to shape the world in their imagine by invoking and empowering emotions until they can trigger a Revelation, which permanently alters the game board. Cerebria supports up to four players, and has four modes with different sets of conditions based on how many players are involved. The game’s miniatures are Kickstarter exclusive, and come in your choice of bare plastic or surprisingly high quality pre-painted versions. You can grab your copy for $75, or $100 if you’d like your miniatures to come pre-painted.
