The Death Guard’s big daddy is in stores now – Mortarion has arrived!

Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy were just as excited about Mortarion coming as we were – that’s why they brought him over to show off in all his Nurgle-filled glory:

Mortarion is a fantastic kit. We’ve gushed about him already in more details here. He’s also a complete beast on the tabletop as well. He doesn’t seem to boost this troopers as much as Guilliman and he’s not as Psychically Powered as his brother Magnus – however, he is very deadly!

For our Mortarion we went with a color scheme that was a throwback to his Pre-Heresy colors. The details on the armor and weapons just beg for that dirty look which is well suited for using washes and weathering. It’s just an amazing kit with every bit oozing with details and character. If you’re a Death Guard player, I don’t know how you can resist picking this kit up for your army!

We also took a look at the Death Guard dice from Games Workshop in the video as well. I know lots of folks were curious about these dice – they look weird! Plus there were a lot of questions on “how they rolled” when you use them. Are they balanced? What are they made off?

So let’s talk about materials first – the dice are made of two parts, the outside green part is plastic. The inside yellow “pips” are actually rubber! They have quite a bit of give and you can squeeze them. So how do they roll? They are bouncy for one thing. Now, we didn’t do any full experiments with them to try to determine if they favored a side or anything – that would require thousands of “mechanically perfect” dice rolled and a statistical analysis of the results. Frankly, I didn’t want to spend my weekend doing that. We did play around with them and they did seem to roll fairly with lots of “action” on the roll, probably because of the bouncy interior. But let’s be honest, if you’re buying these dice it’s cause they look different – keep a back-up set of regular dice on hand and use these for counters and no one will care.

Both the Dice and Mortarion are in stores everywhere now, so if you want to pick him out go out there and do it!

Mortarion, Daemon Primarch of Nurgle $140

For ten thousand years Mortarion, Lord of the Death Guard, has crushed his enemies upon the field of battle. Surrounded by chittering Daemon mites, droning flies and noxious plague vapours, Mortarion swoops into battle on vast, creaking wings. the thudding beat of these foul pinions fills the enemy with crawling dread, even as they waft the reek of death across their lines. To even stand in the presence of the Death Lord is lethal, opponents choking and collapsing as they succumb to the myriad plagues that churn the air around him.
