Explore And Survive The Massive 7th Continent To Lift Your Curse

Explore the untamed wilderness, craft what you’ll need to survive, and cling to life in an attempt to lift the curse upon you in The 7th Continent.

The 7th Continent is a solo or cooperative, tile-laying exploration survival game which made its debut on Kickstarter in 2015. The campaign was a huge success by any measure and Serious Poulp are currently running another Kickstarter campaign to fund the expansion, What Goes Up, Must Come Down. Each tile expands the board and will have different locations and events which the players will have to face. Players use their skills, resources and tools they’ve crafted to overcome these hazards. With each event, players can draw extra cards to improve their chance of success, but quicken their rate of exhaustion. To lift the curse placed upon them, the players must scour the land attempting to discover where to even start. If they succeed in lifting the curse, the players win. The 7th Continent offers many, many hours of content if players want to fully complete the game. To assist, the game offers a clever design to let players pack the game away and return it to the same board state as when they last played.

The 7th Continent is a vastly deep and thematic game which tackles the genre like few have ever attempted in this scope. The game with all expansions offers a total of over 1200 cards. Each curse offers a different story along with it and different goals the players will have to discover and achieve. I love cooperative games and massive world exploring and deep storytelling elements. With the addition of being “at the crossroads between Jules Verne and Lovecraft”, this game seems right up my alley. I’m sad I’m only just now learning about it.  Perhaps the best part is the game boasts having no dice rolling to determine success or failure. Usually, dice are typically not my friend, so this is a nice mechanic for me. This seems like an open world video game that decided halfway through production to become a tabletop game.

The core set and the expansion are both available in the current Kickstarter campaign. Furthermore, the publishers have stated there is no retail release in the foreseeable future.

The 7th Continent $80 for core game, $45 for expansion – Kickstarter ends Oct 19th

The 7th Continent is a cooperative exploration and survival board game with mechanics inspired by the adventure books where “you are the hero”.
On your own or in a team of up to 4 players, set off on an epic adventure and attempt to lift the curses that were placed upon you during your first expedition to the continent.
Progress at your own pace through this mysterious land, building the board piece by piece with numbered Terrain and Event cards.
If you want to live through the many dangers of the 7th Continent and lift your curse, you will have to use all your survival skills: craft items, hunt and fish to get food, learn how to benefit from your environment, spend experience points to acquire new abilities, etc.
Unlike other board games, The 7th Continent will take you through many, MANY hours of adventure as you explore the continent to lift your curse…or die trying! To make this manageable, the game includes a simple yet effective save system that allows you to quickly interrupt the game at any time and have it ready for your next session, just like in a video game.
  • 1000+ minutes of adventure
  • 1 to 4 players.
  • Ages 14+

~If this game is anything like other choose your own adventure games, I’m likely to turn to page 167 and die from tripping over a rock.
