RPG Gallery: “What’s Your Favorite Monster?”

Everyone has one – what’s yours?

Enjoy. If you have an awesome wargames shot you think would make a great BoLS pic of the day, email us. We love spectacle and characterful shots so lets see what you budding photographers can do! Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, X-Wing, Warmachine/Hordes, Runewars, Bolt Action, Armada & Flames of War miniatures photos are welcome

The Beholder…iconic, deadly, and cool looking. Mindflayers are a close second and ive always wanted to do an evil campaign with the PCs as those tentacle faced sobs!

    • JPMcMillen

I got to go with the mindflayers. With their abilities to create an army of thralls made up of different types of beings, the party never completely knows what to expect.

    • Youme

Mine as well, the new cover of Xanathars is absolutely amazing.

  • YetAnotherFacelessMan

I don’t have one. I’m sorry to let you down.

I… I guess Human? Human is my favorite monster?

  • fffrazee

Gelatinous cube. No one ever sees it coming and in my games the players are constantly on edge knowing one could be lurking around any corner or inside a closet.

    • OrksIsMadeFerRockin

Gelatinous cube pc. Dm: there are four orc in front of you one is holding a knife to the throat of a townswoman. What do you do? PC: I jiggle.

  • OrksIsMadeFerRockin

The lowly goblin is probably my fav. Some of the best encounters I have run were when the party started talking to one of those mischievous little suckers. Close second is a mimic. Who doesn’t want to fight a matress?

  • Aurion Shidhe

Gnome is the best monster. Definitely gnome.

  • Ronin

Beholders. They’re like Daleks which is why I use the latter to voice act them, but I scream “ANNIHILATE! ANNIHILATE!”

  • BraynCel

Rust Monster. The first monster I encountered whilst playing D&D. Closely followed by Mimics, because of the joke that it started within my group. Also, Dragons are cool too.

    • EnTyme

The Rust Monster is the one creature feared just as much by a level 20 party as it is a level 1 party. Rust Monster don’t care what you had to do to earn that bad**s sword, it looks delicious.

  • Matteo Battarra

The rational part of me votes the Mindflayers for all the above reasons.
But my heart will always belong to the cuddly, bloodthirsty, implausible Owlbear!!

  • EnTyme

Kind of an odd one here, but I’ve always really liked Displacer Beasts. Something about an intelligent panther that evolved a way to trick your perception is just really interesting to me.

Not DnD per say.. but in Dark Heresy Creatures Anathema there is a Heretek construct made solely out of robotic prosthetics. It’s sole goal in life is to come at you like in a Japanese horror movie, and grapple you till you pass out and then club you to death.
