Runewars: The Uthuk Y’llan March to War

Fantasy Flight Games is back with a new preview showcasing the actions of the Uthuk Y’llan units in the expansion!

We wrote about the first preview of the Uthuk Y’llan back in June and now FFG is back with more news about the units included in their upcoming expansion. Today we’re getting a better look at their dials and getting more of an idea of the upgrades that will be available from them as well.

As the battle for Terrinoth continues, a fourth faction joins the fray with the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion! The demons of generations past have returned with this massive expansion that includes twenty-two miniatures for you to build your demonic army. Under the command of Ravos the Everhungry, who we examined in a previous preview, the Uthuk Y’llan Army Expansion offers sixteen Berserkers, four Flesh Rippers, and one Spined Thresher. Additionally, this expansion includes twelve upgrade cards to strengthen your Ynfernael forces and equip them to spill rivers of blood in your name. Today, Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to offer a closer look at the demons that fill the ranks of the Uthuk Y’llan army in Runewars Miniatures Game!

Berserkers

The Berserkers are the back bone of the Horde. They have an unpredictable movement and a bloodthirsty nature that is apparent in their dials. This is represented by a white 1 march modifier that can be paired with any of their actions.

Flesh Rippers

Moving quickly across the battlefield the Flesh Rippers are deadly combatants. Filling the role of a cavalry unit, they can charge into battle and strike hard and fast. Their dial provides them with movement at a varied initiative so they can go early, mid, or later in the turn. Fortunately for them, they also have a 2 blue march modifier so you can have an even farther reach. Once they get locked into combat, they have a red surge/morale option that will pair nicely with their special ability.

Spined Threshers

A massive siege unit the Spined Threshers bulk is deceiving for it’s speed. It also features a white 1 march modifier that you can pair with any of it’s actions. This makes it one of the fastest siege units in the game. They are also getting a dual red icon that grants them a bonus hit and morale icon.

If that wasn’t enough they can also equip the Bull Pennon upgrade that can be used to grant them an Impact 1. This fits perfectly with the unit because that extra panic will allow the Spined Threshers the ability to re-roll a die.

The Ynfernael army is coming to smash everything caught in it’s wake. Are you ready to face the Locust Horde? They are up for pre-order now and should be arriving later this quarter.

The game, lore and concept arts are all incredible. However, the models are kinda… meh.

    • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I have mixed opinions. I really like the simplicity and minimal detail of the minis so that you can really enjoy painting them. On the other side there are some models which just don’t look all that impressive.

      • Orangecoke

Same here – for the most part I really like them though. Problem is I think the game is dying.

        • ZeeLobby

It’s really hard to tell. We have players and a night locally, but a fair number have decided not to play until the 4 factions are released and have a wave. Was just a really weird rollout.

I was wondering about the lore. How is it told?

      • ZeeLobby

So sadly I think it’s spread across all the Runebound game systems. That said, even the super thin lore book of the starter was a really good read. It really reminded me of WHFB and the old world style of writing.

I kind of like the simplicity of their undead archers and warriors. Still not sure what to make of the big slug.

  • I think by restricting itself to four factions only, it may kill itself even more unless they pull it together

    • ZeeLobby

It’s really hard to even judge considering the 4 aren’t even really out yet. I see them doing more, but they’d have to sell first, and without all 4 at launch I feel like it’s been a struggle.
