In Avalon Hill’s legacy imagining of Betrayal at House on the Hill, players will learn the history of the house and how to came to have such a sordid past.

Betrayal Legacy is an upcoming revamp of the popular horror game, Betrayal at House on the Hill.  Legacy games are noted by their story driven game play with decisions and outcomes affecting future games. Typically there is a full narrative the players will run through, with a certain number of games to be played throughout the entire story.

Betrayal Legacy’s 13 chapter campaign will span over years and generations and is going to focus on the House itself. Each game, the players will take the role of a character and will eventually play as the descendants of those characters as the house grows and changes throughout the ages. With 50 different Haunts, players will not see every Haunt during their play through.  However, this allows for branching narratives, allowing for multiple stories to be told.  Once the campaign is completed, the game can continue to be played within the House the players have built throughout the campaign.

Betrayal Legacy was designed by Rob Daviau, who also designed Risk Legacy and co-designed Pandemic Legacy.  According to his Twitter, he’s been working on it for the past year.

Betrayal Legacy will likely take heavy influences from Betrayal at House On The Hill.  I think most of the people who don’t like House On The Hill are not viewing the game as the designers intended.  House On The Hill is not a fair game. It’s WILDLY unbalanced, but that’s the point. This game is far more Lovecraftian than any Arkham Horror game out there. You go into the game (or story) knowing full well all the main protagonists are going to die or be driven insane. There is very rarely happy ending for our heroes. If you can value the nature of a good story and experience over that of attempting to win a game, you can have a fantastic time with House on the Hill.
