Geekery: This Trailer for ‘Rampage’ is Bonkers

Starring giant mutant animals, Dwayne Johnson, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan!

Rampage is based on the 1986 arcade game by Midway that allowed players to take control of monsters of the game. The goal of each round was to level a city without being taken out by the military. Warner Brothers decided that sounded like a great movie, and gave it to Brad Peyton – aka the genius behind the joyous disaster of a disaster movie that is San Andreas.

Yep. So, here we are.

This is gonna be stupid and great, but mostly stupid. Maybe go to a place that serves alcohol when you see it.

Rampage hits theaters April 20th of next year.

Hate all you want. I’m oddly excited for this. Sometimes you just gotta shut off your brain and watch s*** blow up.

    • It didn’t come across quite as much as I intended in the article – I love movies like this. It’s going to be bad and dumb, but in the best ways possible.

  • Jabberwokk

    Mindless monster movie? I’m in.

    • Jared van Kell

This is actually a movie based off of an old arcade game of the same name.

  • Chris Hateley

Poor The Rock. I’m pretty sure this movie has been in production for years, but now the masses are just going to accuse it of being a rip off of Kong: Skull Island, purely because that one beat this to the punch.

It’s like Critters and Gremlins all over again. 🙁

I would imagine the average pitch meeting with The Rock goes something like this:

Agent: “So Dwayne, let’s start with this one. It’s based off of an arcade game from the 90s . . .”

      Rock: “I’ll do it!’

      A: “But I didn’t even tell you what it’s . . .”

      R: “Sounds fun!”

A: “But we have twelve other scripts to look . . .”

R: “Sweet! Sign me up for all of them! So what’s for lunch? You guys want some Greek?”

A: ” *sigh* Get me a gyro. Extra tzatziki.”

  • David Smith

Rampage is my all time favorite arcade game. Sign me up foe some mindless mayhem!
I just hope one of the monsters pulls a person out of a window and eats them at some point!

    • Dennis J. Pechavar

I’m a Gauntlet man myself, it’s only a matter of time before that one is made.

  • Randy Randalman

Dwayne does movies like this because he’s basically bulletproof right now and can make any stupid concept fun.

  • Drpx

But the mons used to be people…

  • Txabi Etxebarrieta

This genuinely looks bad enough to be fun. Also Dwayne The Rock Johnson. I’m in.

  • TheWanderingJewels

It looks absurdly awesome. And awesomely absurd

  • Jared van Kell

They are actually turning the game into a movie. I love it.

  • KnightShift

Not for the first time and not for the last, I am lamenting that Privateer Press abandoned their Monsterpocalypse game…

  • zeno666

    I loved that game!
Gonna watch this one for sure.

  • Chaosrex

In all honesty you waztch this just for Dwayne, his reactions are genuinly awesome.
