GW: Rumor Engine “A Quiver Full of Clues”

Games Workshop is teasing the fletching out of this rumor engine!

via Warhammer Community

We’re all a-quiver about this week’s Rumour Engine. Got an idea of what it might be?

That is a fancy quiver! Now, lots of factions use arrows in Age of Sigmar so that’s the obvious starting point.

Judicators from the Stormcasts use arrows – but notice their arrows don’t have fletching…

The Kurnoth Hunters also use arrows but you can see their fletching is leaves – and also they have quiver-beetles which are kinda cool…

This sisters of Avelorn are another example of a unit that uses Bows & Arrows – but their arrows are magical…no need for a quiver I suppose.

The Glade Guard definitely use “Real Arrows” and made of wood and also have quivers on their models. But what if those aren’t arrows – but are Bolts…as in crossbow bolts…

The quiver is ornate…and it’s kind of spikey/stabby looking…it would certainly fit the aesthetic of the army formerly known as Dark Elves. And they have been kinda of “Mysterious” lately. And Gav Thrope did say this during his AMA:

Aslum: Hi Gav, I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to know, when is Slaanesh/Emperor’s Children going to get some love (40k or AoS)? Khorne and Nurgle are constantly getting new units and fluff, and recently Tzeentch got a bunch of new releases (partially spurred by Silver Tower). Meanwhile Slaanesh has been practically fridged in Age of Sigmar and has a big target on her head from the Ynnari in 40k.

Sorry. I don’t have any scoop for you on that front. The order you have described is the same as the sales popularity of the gods (or was when I worked in the Studio) so Khorne and Nurgle have usually been top of the heap in terms of favour (ha!). I don’t know what’s happening with the Prince of Pleasure in AoS but I’m hoping the darling goddess will return with a bang!

With other power-specific codexes and armies being released, I figure Slaanesh will be along at some point, but don’t know when.

Maybe this could be something to do with the Aelves in AoS and the return of Slaanesh? How cool would that reveal be?

Detail on the metal work screams to me Aelven to be, possibly of the Dark variety. Although, I reckon there is a good chance we’ll be seeing a combined Dark/High elven army with a whole new aesthetic, as opposed to two separate armies.

    • Koldan

As all new order releases were always connected to one mortal realm, and the two missing realms are shadow and light, my guess is they will stay seperate, especially as the gods in this realms are also a former dark elf and a former high elf.

  • Xodis

High Aelven archer faction for Shadespire is my vote.

    • EnTyme

I wouldn’t expect to see anything new for Shadespire being leaked before the currently-announced warbands are released. I’m guessing this to be for Age of Sigmar. Some of those Aelf-like rumor engine posts were from last March. Surely they’re getting close to releasing that stuff!

      • ZeeLobby

But I mean, do we even know this is Shadespire. I don’t think it really matters if we have no clue what this is for. Usually their leaks are like months off anyway.

        • EnTyme

I think you misunderstood me, Zee. I don’t think this is from a Shadespire model. I was saying that I don’t anticipate Shadespire teasers until the currently-known warbands are released. I think this is for something in the Aelf release we’ve been speculating. about for almost a year now.

          • ZeeLobby

Yeah, i was talking more to the point of, why can’t this be a Shadespire teaser? It’s not like we’d even know if it is. These small B&W teasers could really be at anything at anytime because they don’t really tease anything. I agree it’d be bad to start teasing promotional items for what is clearly shadespire warbands, but these are nothing like promotional teasers.

These are really just like shots in the dark for people to say “Ohhhhhh” to later. I just don’t think the release schedule effects the release of these at all (except that they come before the release obviously). In the past we’ve gotten several in a row within a month for releases spread across the next 6 months. I don’t think these are really any indicator of what is around the immediate corner.

  • ZeeLobby

Def looks like Elf stuff (ugh, Aelf)

      • ZeeLobby

        Thank you!

  • SilentPony

I will grant it’s pretty difficult to link this to a PLASTIC THUNDERHAWK, so I’ll just go with they’re Redemption Bolter crossbow bolts for the new Canoness of the PLASTIC BATTLE SISTERS CONFIRMED!

    • ZeeLobby

One day man. One day. And on that day!!! Phew, the epicness. We won’t be able to handle it. XD

      • SilentPony

God, can you imagine? I won’t be able to even!

    • Lemonic_Tutor

Confirmed: the new sisters will no longer get bolters but will instead be equipped with bow and arrow which is 1 shot, 18″, Str 2, Ap +1

      • SilentPony

        Assault 2, 18″, S User, Ap None, D – D3 Against enemies with the Keyword Chaos, D – 1 Against everything else

  • Marco

Long Live Warhammer Fantasy and The Old World! Down Age of Sigmar!

    • Jonathon Runge

Agreed. The aesthetic and nature of the setting lack the feel that is giving Fantasy and The Old World a foothold in other markets as well as overall longevity. Part of it is the destruction of the Old World to introduce new models. All it would have taken is dimensional instability and an expeditionary force into Chaos through the southern gate to deal with some new problem such as discovering warped reflections of the world that can directly effect Old World depending on who holds either version. A defensive ritual gone wrong that added a semblance of order to the Realm of Chaos and is creating a feed back.

  • Chet Atkinson

I imagine it’s something elfy for Shadespire

  • AEZ

I think it’s AoS Aelves and I think it’s not for a single infantry model but for something larger (boltthrower) or on a chariot.

  • Steven Deleu

A bit puzzled! The feathers are not very detailed. As some of you propose eg chariot, warmachine… I would expect to see clear linings in the feathers at that stage. Crossbow bolts maybe, tend to be smaller… so elven would also be my guess or free folk.

    • Chet Atkinson

Yeah, it’s not very well defined at all

  • Koen Cambré

    Sea Aelves I reckon

  • Chris Hateley

    It’s a space marine.

  • Shadowstrife

‘My name is Oliver Queen. For five years I was stranded on an island, Ulthuan, before it sank under the ocean’.

    • euansmith

      You have failed you city!

  • Janis!

  • disqus_HUXMdKxsPG

Probably part of the dark elf shadowlin army

  • EnTyme

I used to speculate on Rumor Engine teasers like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • shabbadoo

    Them be Orc arrers!

I’m guessing it’s something Aelven for Age of Sigmar. Hopefully for the main game. It would be odd if they did Aelves for Shadespire before the main game, since the only coherent Aelven faction at this point is Wanderers, and they don’t have a Battletome. So far, all the Shadespire warbands have come from a faction with a Battletome, and I don’t see GW breaking that pattern.

GW have also kindof got the Aelven lore at a point where it can be expanded upon. Malaerion/Realm of Shadows, Tyrion/Realm of Light, and their capture of Slaanesh. That’s two, potentially 3 big monster kits you can make right there. Dark Aelves already have good plastics that just need to be repackaged. So do Highborn, to an extent (need new Battleline, though).
