  • Minicannuck

I realise that these lists are perfectly legal but I have an issue with mixing hive fleets together. GW did a great job on the fluff in the Tyranid book. I think it is the first time I really felt they captured the idea that this is an amoral virus coming into the galaxy. It just seems that it is hard to theme an army list that has different fleets mixed together.

    • Paul Davies

Totally agree, everyone complains when the game becomes broken but fail to realise it’s the power gamers like this who look for every opportunity and advantage. People need to stick to one Hive Fleet / Chapter / Forge World etc and embrace a little more fluff

      • Jabberwokk

If your playing narrative sure. If your playing matched play I say it’s completely fine.

        • Paul Davies

But the the game becomes just like previous editions… Who has the shiny new codex that can be abused the most… Appreciate matched play needs to be competitive but not at the expense of the enjoyment of the game.

          • Jabberwokk

It doesn’t always work that way. When 5th and especially 6th dropped for nids the meta pretty much stayed the same or straight up ignored it. All I’m saying it’s not always a hard and fast rule.

Lastly I’m going to point of the whole point of the the three modes of play was to solve this issue. Some people find enjoyment on that level and for them there’s matched play. Not trying to ‘stir the pot’ but If this is categorically inappropriate here where is it not?

          • Paul Davies

Yeah fair enough I do see your point and it’s not that I disagree entirely. I guess I just feel codex creep already and players writing lists solely to be competitive does little for me.

          • Jabberwokk

I heard that some changes will be coming non codex armies when chapter approved drops. I can totally see why. The nid dex is night and day when compared to the index and form what I hear The guard dex was similar in effect. I think GW recognizes the discrepancy and is doing what it can and is why they are pumping out codex’s to get everyone up to speed. I strongly suspect they have something up there sleeve one everyone is caught up.

            Hang in there bud. 😀

    • Elements of different fleets working together where their expansion overlaps seems fine to me. More plausible than many Marines lists.
Or you could just fall back on the fluff of older editions, where the Tyranids’ thing was being able to evolve and adapt to circumstances with different traits, and have one fluff fleet using rules for several different rules fleets. (Your opponent does need to be able to tell which units are using which rules; personally I’d allow counters/tokens, but paint schemes would be better. You could still have different schemes with a unified theme to them.)

  • markdawg

I thought that was the idea of this edition to make everything viable so you could make all they play styles viable within your book.

I don’t think it’s working they are going to have to work on how to motivate players to make choices that have a more fluffy feel.
