Every Tuesday is the BoLS Board Game Bonanza where our gang of gamers takes on a different selection of board games chosen by you, the viewer. What will they play? Will friendships be ruined around a game of Settlers of Catan, or is it a more innocuous game like Munchkin or Hero Quest that will sunder their bonds? Find out on Boardgame Bonanza.
Bundle up friends, we’re heading to the antarctic–and Things there are not quite what they seem. As events transpire, it becomes clear that something has infected the researchers at the station. They’ll have to leave–but can they be certain that everyone is what they appear to be?
Mechanically, The Thing – Infection at Outpost 31 is a “Betrayal” style game where one (or more) players are “the thing” trying to get out of the outpost and on to the Helicopter. There are a number of missions that players have to undertake in order to accomplish this–and what’s interesting about this set up is that the Infected player(s) ALSO want to escape, so they have to work with the normal people and it really amps up the “who can you trust” aspect of the game.
