The partnership between Games Workshop & WizKids gets ready for 2018 with a new Dice Masters set!

Back in October we covered the new licensing partnership between Wizkids and Games Workshop. Now we’re getting the first glimpses of what that partnership entails with the announcement that Warhammer 40,000 and Dice Masters are getting a crossover.

Set in the dark sci-fantasy world of Warhammer 40,000, the game allows players to build teams of iconic characters and warriors to battle it out for supremacy using custom dice and cards.  Warhammer 40,000 Dice Masters uses the game system designed by Mike Elliott and Eric M. Lang for Dice Masters, and will be completely compatible with other games in the line.  There will be four factions available at the start, and players can build teams using a single faction, or mix and match to create their own Dice Masters team.

The Battle For Ultramar starter set is reportedly coming with fixed contents that will include enough dice for two players and the following:

  • A Force of Ultramarines
  • A Force of Death Guard
  • Sidekick Dice
  • Basic Action Dice
  • Dice Bags (one for each player)
  • 12 characters including Guilliman, Tigurius, Typhus and Mortarion.

The reported MSRP is $39.95.

The initial first wave will also include two more factions – Orks and Space Wolves.

Orks – WAAAGH! Team Pack and Space Wolves – Sons of Russ Team Pack

Each team pack will have 24 cards and 16 dice. They have an MSRP of $12.99. The Orks Team Pack will feature Ghazghkull Thraka and cards like Boyz, Warbikers and the dreaded Stompa:

The Space Wolves will feature Logan Grimnar and a Venerable Dreadnought.

The Team Packs are intended for use with the Battle for Ultramar Campaign Box (the two player starter). It’s unclear if they will also be fixed components or random – but based on the packaging, they look like they will be fixed.

(Note: User jigsawhc says “All of the past Dice Masters team packs and starters have been fixed sets of cards with the matching dice.” So there you go! Team packs are not random, but the boosters are.)

It is noted that this new set will be completely compatible with previous versions of Dice Masters sets. That means you could have Logan Grimnar Punch The Joker in the face. Or you could have Ghaz smash Wolverine. I’m just saying the possibilities are there!

The Battle for Ultramar will be after the Dice Masters April and May releases. Look for this in the June/July time frame.

So who would you want your Grim Dark Heroes to take on in the Marvel/DC realm? Now you can do it in Dice Masters!
