Do you hate playing honestly? Will you do literally anything you can to win? Hasbro has got you covered!

There are good people out there: Gandhi, Mr. Rogers, Huey Lewis, Martin Luther King Jr.  These great people are objectively above our station, morally speaking.  They would never think to stoop so low as to lie, cheat or steal.  Fortunately, for the rest of us, Hasbro understands the reality of humanity.

Hasbro has announced they will be releasing a Cheater’s Edition of their classic board game, Monopoly.  This edition of the game rewards players who can use slight of hand and misdirection to sneak a few extra bucks in their pocket or move your piece out of turn.  The game will come with 15 Cheat Cards.  Five of them will be set up in the middle of the board, taunting players with cheaterrific objectives.  These objects come in a variety of options.

  • Stealing money from the bank
  • Placing a hotel on one of your pieces of property
  • Removing a hotel from someone else’s property
  • Taking an extra $100 in Monopoly money from the bank when you pass go.
  • Moving another player’s token instead of your own on your turn.
  • Giving someone less money than you owe them.
  • Collecting rent for someone else’s property

If a player can get away with doing the action without getting caught, they declare themselves a cheater and gain the reward listed on the opposite side of the card.  However, if they are caught in the act, they suffer the listed consequences instead. On top of that, the player goes to jail and gets handcuffed to the game board for as long as they remain in jail!

To make cheating even easier, a few of the core game mechanics have been altered as well. “For the first time in Monopoly history, there is no designated Banker,” says Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of Hasbro gaming. “Players are in control of the Bank on their turn, and pass it to the next player when their turn is over, making it easier to pull of “cheats” such as a the Bank Heist.”
