The Farsight Enclaves are known for their mastery of close assault, using their battlesuits to great effect in mass drop assaults from Manta transports. On the tabletop, the Farsight Enclaves possess a Sept Tenet that opens up a new tactical avenue for your army, making your force surprisingly deadly in close quarters:

Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes! If you can get in danger close then your models will be rewarded with a re-roll to wound rolls of 1. Man…GW is really pushing those Breacher Team tactics in this new book: Get up close and SHOOT them. On the other end of the spectrum this also helps out with things like making sure your Fusion Guns don’t whiff on the wound rolls or, perhaps more terrifying, using this in conjunction with a triple flamer Crisis suit…Notice that this ability is not relegated to JUST the shooting phase. It would apply in Overwatch as well!

Commander Farsight

The Renegade Commander is back and his weapons got an upgrade to go along with his new abilities:

His plasma rifle has a new name to match the boosted AP and Damage. And the Dawn Blade is even nastier with an improved Str +3 boost. If you’re wanting to take the Commander on in close combat, then you’re going to have to deal with his 4 Strength 8 attacks that are going to be “hitting on 2s, re-rolling 1s, cleaving through all but the heaviest armour and doing D3 damage apiece!”

Oh and his Warlord trait is going to help out with the T’au players getting him in there:

Maybe his “bloodthirsty” nature is starting to get the better of him…no matter. Just get him within 6″ of a combat and let him do some WORK!

We Heard You Like Suits

GW knows T’au players love their suits so Crisis and Enforcer Commander suits are getting some love as well.

“T’au Empire Commanders have a huge array of Warlord Traits and Signature Systems to choose from. You’ll even be able to decide whether you want to equip yours with the XV8 Crisis battlesuit (or even XV8-02 Crisis Iridium armour, which is now an upgrade rather than a Signature System) or opt to spend more points and gain an extra Wound with the XV85 Enforcer battlesuit. These can then be fitted with a wide variety of equipment. In the Farsight Enclaves, we’d recommend stocking up on close combat options with a couple of returning favourites:”

Wow – Fusion Blades sound kinda rad! I don’t look forward to being on the recieving end of those things.

Powerfist? Yeah, sure – why not! You’ll only get one swing with this one (per fight phase) so you better make it count.

Now, with all that gear there is one downside. In Match Play, you can only have one Commander in each Detachment:

At least this gives your OTHER HQs I (forced) reason to exist now. There can be only ONE Commander, I think I’ll name him Macleod. Commanders get one more Stratagem they can opt to use as well:

The cost of 1 CP (and your Commander’s Shooting) you can allow one Battlesuit unit within 6″ to re-roll failed wound rolls for this phase. Depending on how your Commander is equipped, this might not be a terrible trade-off. Just keep it in mind as a valid thing you can do while you’re building your list.

Farslight Enclave Detachments are going want to get up close and personal and I’m very curious to see what other tricks they are going to get when the new book comes out later this month!
