Heroic Abilities are powerful actions used as incidentals during combat. These abilities represent what makes your hero unique—through a backstory that you develop, your Heroic Ability comes to life. As your character grows in experience, they receive ability points, which you can spend on upgrades that further customize your character’s Heroic Ability.

That’s right – you get to spend your ability points in customizing your character’s Heroic Ability, creating a unique Heroic Ability that is specific to YOUR character! And all it takes is three easy steps:

1 – Choose A Primary Effect

The Primary Effect is the core of your Heroic Ability. When choosing this, it should be rooted in your character’s backstory and concept. It should help define what makes your character who they are – if this was a super hero game it would be what makes the hero “super” in a way.

Realms of Terrinoth has a massive list of primary abilities to start with. However, nothing in the rules says you can’t work with your GM to create your own effects, too. These abilities do come at a price as they cost two story points to use and can only be activated once per session. So whatever you pick, choose wisely…

2 – Determine Your Ability’s Origin

There are a few different ways to do this, but FFG has also created a chart to help you out with this part.

The Origin of your powers can be just as important as the powers themselves – so have fun with this step and work with your GM so that it fits your character and helps with the narrative you’re crafting as well.

3 – Name Your Ability

This step is possibly the most intimidating step of all three. The name of your power will become iconic, like Goku’s Kamehameha or Ryu’s Hurricane Kick, the name does matter! But really, this step is also there there add that last bit of flavor for your character and help personalize it that much more.

Level Up

As your character level’s up, you can spend XP to improve your Heroic Ability. In this way, your ability grows and changes as your character does, too. For every 50XP you earn, you can spend it on improvements  that can change the base effect, increase how often you can use it, the length of time it lasts, and a whole lot more…

Here is an example of one of the Heroic Abilities and the “upgrades” it can have. Hard to Kill, as the name implies, makes your character extremely resilient to damage. You can tweak this power with xp as your level up as well by working with the GM and making it unique to your character. Why does your character have this trait? Do they have some magical artifact that grants them this ability? Perhaps they trained to years to toughen their body and mind to ignore physical punishment. The options are wide open and you can decide how it works, why it works, and where it will take you from there!

“This rich fantasy setting, ripe for adventure, awaits you in Realms of Terrinoth, a new campaign setting sourcebook for the Genesys Roleplaying System! set in the world of Descent, Runewars, Legacy of Dragonholt, and more!”

Realms of Terrinoth $49.95

Terrinoth is a land of forgotten greatness and lost legacies. Once ruled by the Elder Kings who called upon mighty magics to perform great deeds and work marvels, the land has suffered greatly at the hands of its three great foes; the undead armies of Waiqar the Betrayer, the demon-possessed hordes of the bloodthirsty Uthuk Y’llan, and the terrifying dragons of the Molten Heath. Many of its great cities have been cast down into ruins, and many wondrous secrets and powerful artifacts have been lost.

For hundreds of years, Terrinoth slipped into gloom and decay. But heroes arise just when their lands need them the most. Courageous adventurers brave the ruins of past ages and the foul creatures within to uncover the treasures of their ancestors. The Daqan Barons, inheritors of the ancient kingdoms, rebuild their walls and muster their armies, while the wizards of Greyhaven gather runes of power to awaken guardians of stone and steel. All this is just in time, for the ancient enemies of the lawful races are stirring again, and Terrinoth needs champions of courage and cunning to stand against the rising darkness.

This is the world you enter in Realms of Terrinoth, a new sourcebook for the Genesys Roleplaying System!

Realms of Terrinoth explores the world of Mennara featured in the Runewars Miniatures Game, Legacy of Dragonholt, Descent, and Runebound. As a fantasy setting, Realms of Terrinoth features many races, weapons, gear, careers and more that can both be found in the world of Mennara as well as expanded to any fantasy setting you create as the Gamemaster.
