With the Genestealer Cult Rules out in the latest White Dwarf it’s time to head back into the Underhive!

The March 2018 Edition of White Dwarf has the new Genestealer Cult Rules for Necromunda inside and it’s getting me thrilled to dive back into the game.

When Necromunda first launched, I was excited. It was one of my favorite games when I was a young tabletop gamer. It was cheap to get into (compared to a full 40k army), it played faster, the rules were solid, and it tickled that RPG-lite itch with the Campaign. I was hooked! So when it was making its return I knew I wanted in. The biggest problem I had was the gang that I wanted to play wasn’t in the starter box.

Orlocks 4 Lyfe…or so I thought.

I was an old school House Orlock player. So when they announced the two gangs would be Golaith and Escher I was a little bummed. Until I saw the Sculpts:

“Wow!” I thought. “They look fantastic! I can’t wait to see what my new Orlocks look like!” a few months later Orlocks hit the shelves:

Hmm. Not what I was expecting. I was hoping for the same look – a 90’s gangbanger I guess. Instead we got these new sculpts. Technically, they are pretty impressive – lots of bits the on the sprue, lots of options…but they just didn’t match the same feel I was hoping for. I actually have a box of them, hoping I would get inspired as I was looking at the sprues…but they just sort of fell flat for me. Oh well. At least I had my Four-Armed Emperor loyalists on the way…

Genestealer Cult

When the rumor mill started spinning up about the Genestealer Cult returning to the Underhive, It made a LOT of sense. They already had a kit. They were already part of the background. All GW needed to do was hammer out some updated rules and let the players go from there. Plus, since my last serious adventure into Necromunda, I had started my Tyranid Army and had picked-up some GSC allies as a small detachment. So I was ready.

Well, my dreams came true this March with the latest issue of the White Dwarf. The GSC is here and it’s exactly what I was looking for:

They have some fitting skills and also some fitting penalties. But really with the release of these rules Necromunda is starting to feel like it’s in a better spot in terms of variety. We’ve now got 4 Gangs that are out and available to play. That’s enough to keep things interesting. And once Van Saar hits the shelves, I’m sure we’ll get a new wave of players. Have you seen those models?!

Yeah – I’m totally getting a box of those gangers. So get your gangs out and ready for the next batch because with Gang War 2, the Orlocks and the Genestealer Cult Necromunda is starting to take shape into a real gang-land turf war!

Nothing against Goliaths and Escher – but I’ve met the Four Armed Emperor…have you?
